The former Australia all-rounder Ashley Noffke is the frontrunner for the vacancy of England Women’s team head coach. Noffke who had played one ODI & two T20Is for Australia in 2007-2008 has enjoyed immense success as Brisbane Heat & Queensland Fire’s Head Coach. Under his leadership, Heat & Queensland won the 2021 edition of Women’s Big Bash League & Women’s National Cricket Legaue.
Though he signed a contract extension with the franchisees in 2021 which will run till 2025, the departure of Lisa Keightley from the position of Head Coach has opened opportunities for him with England Women’s National team. He is one of the renowned names in Cricket Australia & has also worked as Australia Women’s team assistant coach under Matthew Mott’s guidance. Before the latter took up the role with England’s white-ball team earlier in 2022.
The director of England Women’s Cricket, Jonathan Finch interviewed several candidates for the post last week & the winner is expected to be announced in the next 10 days. ECB had initially advertised the post in September & now the shortlisted candidate will start the tenure on a fixed three-year tenure fixed term until November 2025.
Two other contenders are former Sussex pacer, Jon lewis who is Men’s Pace Bowling lead at the ECB & the former Durham batter who has worked with England’s women as a batting consultant for over 18 months. Further candidates for the role are Jon Batty who has coached Oval Invincles to the title in both the editions of Women’s Hundred Tournament, Michael Bates the wicket-keeping & fielding coach who has worked extensively in the women’s game, the Welsh Fire & England Women’s Performance Pathway Coach, Gareth Breese. Meanwhile, England will also name a squad for their upcoming West Indies tour after the coach announcement is done officially.
