AUS vs ENG 3rd ODI: Australia overpowered England by 221 runs in the third and the final ODI of the series to record a scintillating whitewash by 3-0. England consistently failed in their attempt to tackle the resilient Australian all-round show and the results certainly justify their poor show.
Winning the toss at the iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG), England skipper Jos Buttler made an unfortunate decision to field first. As a result, Australia outplayed the visitors and smashed a thunderous total of 355/5 in their first innings of 48 overs.
Australia was off to one of the most stupendous and glorious starts as opening batsmen Travis Head (152) and David Warner (106) posted a record stand of 269 runs for the first wicket. England’s bowling attack was completely shattered by the explosive approach of Head and Warner. Though the middle-order failed to capitalize on the start provided by the openers, decent scores of Smith (21) and Marsh (30) helped Australia to cross the 350-run mark.
For England, Ollie Stone was the most effective paceman who starred in the bowling attack and scalped 4 wickets for 85 runs. Dawson (1/75) chipped in a wicket apiece.
Chasing a mammoth total of 356 runs, England was already off to a sluggish start as top-order batsmen Malan (2) and Billings (7) failed to make an impression as the side struggled at 57/2 by the end of the power play. Jason Roy (33) and James Vince (22) were the only impactful batsmen whereas the middle-order and the tail order were completely blown up by the Aussies as they restricted England to a mere total of 142 runs and seized a victory by a record 221 runs.
AUS vs ENG 3rd ODI: For Australia, Adam Zampa (4/31) was the pick of the bowlers with his sizzling figures. Pat Cummins (2/25) and Sean Abbott (2/45) scaled a couple of wickets each whereas Josh Hazelwood (1/21) and Mitchell Marsh (1/18) grabbed a wicket apiece.
