AUS vs IRE Highlights, T20 WC 2022: Australia beats Ireland by 42 runs

AUS vs IRE Highlights, T20 WC 2022: Clinical Australia displayed an all-round show to keep the Irish squad at the bat & register a gleaming 42 run win over them. With this win Australia stays in contetion of Playoffs & moved up on the second spot of the Points table. However England with a better NRR still have one game left to move up on the standings.

Finch’s 63 run knock guided Aussies to a decent total

Batting first Australia suffered an early blow with Warner getting dismissed right in the second over reducing Australia to 2-1. However then happened the unexpected as Aaron Finch & Mitchell Marsh stitched a rewarding 52 run stand for the second wicket to get Australia back on track. Finch played the role of an aggressor by smashing Irish bowlers across the park. While Mitchell Marsh too supported him by scoring 28 runs off 22 balls. However soon their blooming stand was broken when McCarthy dismissed Marsh in the eight over to give Ireland their second breakthrough.

But Finch didn’t stopped there as he went ahead to stitch another 70-run stand for the fourth wicket with Marcus Stoinis. He amassed 63 runs off 44 balls in an innings braced by five fours & three sixes before getting dismissed off McCarthy’s delivery in the 17th over. Stoinis too went back after scoring 35 runs off 25 balls in the 18.5 over reducing Australia to 160-5. In the end Australia ended their innings at 179-5 in the alotted 20 overs with Tim david (15*) & wade (7*) staying unbeaten at crease. For ireland, Marry MacCarthy starred with the ball by returning with figures of 3-29. Joshua Little too supported him by scalping two wickets for 21 runs.

Irish succumbed in front of Australia’s lethal pace attack

In response, Ireland got off to a disastrous as they lost wickets like a pack of cards. Their openers Paul Stirling (11), Andrew Balbirnie (6), along with Harry Tector (6), Dockrell (0) all failed to hit the straps leaving Ireland reeling at 25-5 after 3.6 overs. Then came a ray of hope for Ireland as Tucker pulled up his socks & did the rebuilding work for his side. Wickets kept falling at one end but Tucker was heading strong at the other end.

He played a valorous unbeaten knock of 71 runs off 48 balls with nine fours & a six. He was in no mood to give up & made mockery of Australian bowling attack.  In the lower middle-order Delany (14) & Adair (11) too played quick cameos. But all their efforts went in vain as lower order failed to deliver. In the end Irelands’ innings was wrapped for 137 in 18.1 overs. For Australia Adam Zampa (2-19) Glenn Maxwell (2-14) starred with the ball. Cummins & Starc too supported him by returning with two wickets apiece.
