AUS vs SA 3rd Test: There comes a huge blow for the Australian team as Mitchell Starc is doubtful for the third Test against South Africa in Sydney after he dislocated his finger during the boxing day Test at the MCG. As per the Reports, Starc dislocated the tip of the middle finger of his left hand which he uses for bowling.
The incident occurred during the first day of the Boxing Test when Starc was trying to take a catch. Immediately after the incident he left the field for treatment & returned to the field at the end of Proteas first innings after practicing & having a brief bowling session in the net at the backside of MCG when he was not needed to bowl.
However, during day two of the second Test, Mitchell Starc was given a green signal to play in the boxing day Test & he also batted in the nets. But further, the statement also said that his condition will be reassessed after the completion of the fixture. The management didn’t reveal any details of the scan results.
Australia has included two pace options in the squad who can fill in the shoes of Starc if he couldn’t make it in the third Test. Josh Hazlewood & Lance Morris bowled in the nets during the second day of the Boxing Day Test at MCG. Morris received a call-up ahead of Adelaide Test against West Indies as a cover option for Starc who has played 18 Tests for Australia after being selected in just one out of five Ashes fixtures.
Australia could consider adding a specialist spinner to the squad for the third & final Test as Australia’s only Test played between New South Wales & West Australia this summer, spinners displayed a great show with the ball. NSW off-spinner Chris Green scalped nine wickets while Western Australia’s off-spinner Corey Rocchiccioli scalped eight wickets in a low-scoring fixture.
