AUS vs SA: Injured Josh Hazelwood ruled out of 1st Test

AUS vs SA: Josh Hazlewood will not play in the opening Test against South Africa, which will take place at Brisbane’s Gabba. He is the only player missing from Australia’s team that recently swept West Indies in a two-match Test series is the 31-year-old bowler who had a side strain.

In the meantime, skipper Pat Cummins after recuperating from his quad injury, is expected to rejoin the starting XI. After his return, Michael Neser and Scott Boland will face off for the third pacer position in the XI, which was previously held by Boland in the last Test.

“Pat continues to improve, bowled with freedom on Saturday and appears likely to play this match although Josh will need more time,” said chief selector George Bailey. “With that in mind, we have retained Michael Neser and Lance Morris in the squad for this match.

“Michael bowled superbly in Adelaide, as did Scott. We were impressed as always with their performances that backed up what they have achieved in the past. Lance is a very exciting prospect who will benefit from time with the squad.

“With so much cricket ahead, we continue to seek opportunities to grow and maintain our fast-bowling experience and depth.”
