AUS vs SL 1st Test: Veteran Australian off-spinner, Nathan Lyon has surpassed legendary Indian cricketer Kapil Dev to enter the list of top ten wicket-takers in Test cricket. Nathan Lyon accomplished the remarkable feat during the first Test against Sri Lanka.

Australia is taking on Sri Lanka in a two-match Test series and has taken a 1-0 lead by defeating Sri Lanka by a massive 10 wickets. The first test took place at the Galle International Stadium. Lyon is at his best and destructive form as he registered a figure of 5/90 in the first innings that helped to bundle out Sri Lanka for a mere total of 212 runs.

Nathan Lyon continued with his terrific approach in the second innings of the match where he picked up 4 wickets for 31 runs that restricted Sri Lanka to score only 113 runs. Australia went on to win the match comfortably.

Nathan Lyon now has 436 wickets in his tally. He broke the previous record of Kapil Dev who chipped in 434 wickets in his Test career. Kapil Dev held the tenth position for a long time until it was finally broken by the versatile Australian spinner.

Lyon’s sparkling performance gave Australia a competitive advantage where they only had to chase five runs in the fourth innings to win the match. Australia chased down the total without dropping their sweat.

Nathan Lyon completely exploited the subcontinent conditions, as a result, Sri Lanka were blown out for low totals. Batting first, Sri Lanka put up 212 runs in the first innings where Dickwella (58), Mathews (39), and Karunaratne (28) made notable contributions.

For Australia, Lyon picked up 5 wickets for 90 runs whereas Swepson supported him and took 3 wickets for 48 runs. Skipper Pat Cummins and Mitchell Starc chipped in a wicket apiece.

Australia put up a fine display of exemplary batting performance as they scored 321 runs and took a lead of 109 runs in the second innings. Green (77) and Khawaja (71) slammed half-centuries for the side whereas wicketkeeper Carey scored 45 runs.

For Sri Lanka, Ramesh Mendis was the pick of the bowlers who picked 4 wickets for 112 runs. Fernando and Vandersay got two wickets each.

In the third innings, Sri Lanka was bundled out for a total of 113 runs, thanks to Nathan Lyon (4/31) and Swepson (4/10). Australia got a target of just 5 runs that was chased in the first over itself & with this Australia registered a massive win over Sri Lanka. Cameron Green was adjudged as the Man of the Match for his brilliant knock of 77 runs.

The second Test between the two sides is scheduled to take place on 8th July 2022 at the Galle International Stadium.
