AUS vs SL ODI Series: Australia announces Playing XI for the First ODI

AUS vs SL ODI Series: After slumping to a 2-1 defeat in the three-match T20I series, Sri Lanka would be aiming to bounce back strongly to clinch the five-match ODI series starting on June 14. On the other hand, the ‘Men in Yellow’ are all set to bag another series win by outclassing the Island nation in the ODI series as well. For fulfilling their goal they have named a strong squad for the first ODI of the series beginning on June 14.

For the unversed, Australia have faced a major setback ahead of the first ODI as their star pacer Kane Richardson will miss the entire series due to an injury. Richardson suffered a serious hamstring injury in the training sessions ahead of their T20I against Sri Lanka on Saturday. Further scans have revealed that the injury would sideline the pacer for the next six weeks. Thus Richardson will not feature in the Sri Lanka ODI series & would fly back to Australia to begin his rehabilitation process.

Richardson’s injury aggravates Australia’s concerns who are already missing the services of their star pacer Mitchell Starc who has suffered a finger injury during the first T20I which ruled him out of the remaining T20Is & first ODI match of the five-match ODI series. Aussie’s experienced all-rounder Mitch Marsh too will miss the first ODI due to a calf injury.

However, there is a positive for Australia’s Team as its Test Captain Pat Cummins will return for the ODI series after being rested for the T20I series due to an injury. While fellow pacers Josh Hazlewood and Jhye Richardson together will constitute Australia’s pace attack for the first ODI.

Adam Zampa will be unavailable for the ODI series also as he is in Australia for the birth of his first child. In Zampa’s absence left-arm spinner Ashton Agar will be the front-line spinner for the Australian side. Meanwhile, Mitchell Swepson too is left out of the Playing XI for the first ODI against Australia.

Now let’s have a look at the Playing XI announced by the Australian Captain for their much anticipated first ODI against hosts Sri Lanka.
