AUS vs WI 1st Test Day 4: Ongoing Australia vs West Indies first Test has taken an interesting turn as by the end of Day 4 hosts need just seven wickets to win. On the other hand, the chances of the West Indies winning the first Test are not ruled out as they end Day 4 at 192-3 & need 306 runs to script history. Labuschagne displayed a stellar show with the bat to post another ton on Day 4 & setting a mammoth target of 498 runs for West Indies to win.
Earlier on Day 4, Australian batsmen David Warner and Marnus Labuschagne initiated the proceedings as the side was 29/1 and leading by 344 runs. Warner (49) and Labuschagne (101) encountered a stellar 81 runs stand for the second. Labuschagne took the command and put up yet another unbeaten 81-run stand alongside Smith (20) for the second wicket.
In the process, Marnus added a rare accolade to his kitty. He became the first batter to register a double & a single century in the same Test, staying unbeaten at 104 off 110 balls. After posting a challenging total of 182/2 in the second innings, Australia declared their innings at 182 runs, adding more power to their first innings total of 598 runs. For West Indies, Kemar Roach (1/30) and Roston Chase (1/31) chipped in a wicket apiece.
Then came the Windies on crease who was handed an invincible target of 498 runs in the final innings of the match.
Chasing a mammoth target, West Indies rode on to a flying start as skipper Kraigg Braithwaite (101) and debutant Tangerine Chanderpaul (45) put up a splendid first-wicket partnership of 116 runs. Braithwaite continued to stand strong at one end but wickets continued to tumble at the other end as ace batsmen Sharmarh Brooks (11) and Jermaine Blackwood (24) failed to make an impression. As a result, West Indies ended AUS vs WI 1st Test Day 4 at 192/3.
For Australia, Nathon Lyon was the most effective bowler as he scalped 2 wickets for 54 runs. Mitchell Starc (1/36) too chipped in a wicket apiece.
Unbeaten centurion Braithwaite and Kyle Mayers will take the crease for West Indies as they still need 306 runs to win. On the other hand, Australia will hope of displaying a fiery show with the ball & scalp all seven wickets to register a glorious win on their name. Who will succeed in their motive is what will be known on the last day of the first Test i.e on Sunday.
