Cricket Australia has announced squads for the England ODI series & West Indies Test Series. And what comes as a boost for the Australian side is the return of Travis Head for the ODI series. Cricket Australia has named full-strength squads for the England ODI series & West Indies Test Series.
Though Australia has always tried to manage the workload of their key fast bowlers- Mitchell Starc, Pat Cummins, and Josh Hazlewood in bilateral assignments, the trio have been included in Australia’s squad for ODI & Test series after Australia’s early exit from ongoing T20 World Cup 2022.
On the other hand, Travis Head who had missed the Australia series against Zimbabwe & New Zealand to be with his partner during the birth of their first child will take the place of recently retired Aaron Finch in the ODI setup. Notably, the three-match ODI series will mark Cummins’s first assignment as Australia’s ODI Captain.
“Our focus is to continue to build a squad with an eye to next year’s World Cup under Pat as the new ODI captain, so it’s an important series,” Chair of Selectors George Bailey said.
Further speaking about the inclusion of Head in the ODI set-up George Bailey said that he has been included in the squad on the back of his blistering performance in Pakistan & Sri Lanka series in 2022. He has depicted versatility in the types of roles he can take up in the ODI setup. He also emphasized that after England ODIs their next assignment in India will allow them to get used to Indian conditions ahead of the World Cup 2023 to be held in India.
Australia named a 13-Man squad for West Indies Test Series
After the conclusion of the ODI series against England on November 22, Australia will head to Perth to face West Indies in the two-match Test series beginning on November 30 in 2022. The second & final Test of the series will be played in Adelaide from December 8.
Australia selected a 13-man squad for the two-match home Test series against West Indies. The series will witness the return of Marcus Harris who wasn’t a part of the Sri Lanka Test series. He earned his place in the 13-member squad after showcasing prolific form in County Cricket & in the Sheffield Shield. While Harris would be their reserve batter, Scott Boland would play the role of a backup pacer to the first-choice pace trio.
