Avesh Khan Illness: Avesh Khan’s participation in the rest of the Asia Cup 2022 remains doubtful as the pacer is yet to recover fully from the illness that he was diagnosed with last week. As per the reports, Deepak Chahar who has traveled with the team as a reserve will get placed into the squad in place of Avesh.
Avesh Khan is currently under the supervision of BCCI’s medical staff in Dubai, where the team is currently participating in the Asia Cup 2022. He has been ruled out of the Super 4s stage against Pakistan on Sunday after complaining of fever. But India’s Coach Rahul Dravid was expecting that Avesh Khan would recover from his illness by the end of the tournament & will be available for the later stages. However, as per Avesh khan’s latest medical reports, he would still need time to recover fully & would not be able to feature in the remaining matches of Asia Cup 2022.
Talking about Avesh Khan’s performance in the ongoing Asia Cup 2022, the pacer wasn’t able to scalp crucial wickets & ended up conceding huge runs in both the fixtures of India’s group stage fixtures. He conceded 72 runs across six overs in the two games he played, including 1 for 53 in the 40-run win against Hong Kong. Avesh Khan has so far featured in 13 T20Is in which he has picked up 15 wickets at an economy of 9.10
Avesh Khan Illness: Deepak Chahar to fill in Avesh Khan’s Shoes
On the other hand, Deepak Chahar who will walk in as Avesh Khan’s replacement has been working hard in net sessions over the past ten days in Dubai. On Tuesday, he underwent an extended bowling session prior to India’s match against Sri Lanka. His bowling sessions have been monitored by India’s bowling coach Paras Mhambrey.
Deepak Chahar is slowly returning to competitive cricket after completing his rehabilitation for a quadricep injury, which he sustained in February. During his rehabilitation, he again sustained a back injury due to which he had to miss IPL 2022. Notably, Chahar was CSK’s one of the costliest picks & his absence was felt by the franchise as they ended the IPL 2022 season at the second last position on the Points Table.
Deepak Chahar made a comeback to cricket after a huge gap of six months for India’s ODI tour of Zimbabwe held last month. Chahar played two out of three matches in the Zimbabwe tour where he ended up scalping five wickets, including 3 for 27 in his comeback game.
India is standing on the verge of Elimination
Coming to the Asia Cup 2022, after suffering a second consecutive defeat in the Super 4 stage of the marquee event, India’s qualification hopes now depend on the results of other teams. In Short, India’s NRR should be greater than Afghanistan & Pakistan’s if they aim to qualify for the Asia Cup 2022 final. Avesh Khan illness will further add to the concerns of the Indian Cricket team which is already dangling on the string of elimination.
