BAN vs IND 1st Test Day 3: Gill, Pujara guides India to an imposing target of 513 runs

BAN vs IND 1st Test Day 3: Indian team is all set to script history as marching ahead to register their first triumph on the grounds of Bangladesh after seven long years. After resuming the play on Day 3, Indian bowlers held their nerves to wrap Bangladesh’s innings for a meager 150 runs. Later, India declared their secodn innings at 258 runs to post a massive 513 run-target for the hosts to chase.

Miraz & Hossain resumed Bangladesh’s innings at 133-8 but couldn’t do much for their side as Kuldeep struck to dismiss both the batters & wrap Bangladesh’s innings at 150 runs. Miraz scored 28 off 82 balls while Hossain scored 17 off 32 balls. Kuldeep starred with the ball by scalping five wickets for just 40 runs.

Pujara-Gill’s 113-run stand helped India to post a competitive target on board

Then came India on the crease to begin their second innings & they got off to a stunning start with KL Rahul & Shubman Gill scoring 70 run-stand for the first wicket. After Rahul’s dismissal, Gill joined hands with India’s Test Specialist Cheteshwar Pujara & the duo added a 113-run stand for the second wicket. Gill & Pujara made a mockery of the Bengal Tigers bowling attack by smashing the bowlers all across the aprk. Gill was in his best form & he finally brought up his maiden Test ton to make this fixture more special.

He scored 110 runs off 152 balls with 10 fours & three sixes. He received valuable support from Pujara who was taking Bangladesh bowlers to cleaners. Gill’s stint ended in the 50th over but Pujara held the other end strongly. He further stitched a 75-run stand with Virat Kohli & in the process registered his 19th Test ton ending 1443 days long century drought. He stayed unbeaten at 102 runs off 130 balls embellished with 13 fours. On the other hand, Virat stayed unbeaten at 19 runs off 29 balls. India reached 258-2 in 61.4 overs when KL Rahul declared the innings handing a massive 512 runs target for hosts to chase in the remaining two days.

In response, Bangladesh too got off to a power-pack start as their openers Najmul Hossain Shanto & Zakior Hasan went on to score 42 runs without losing any wickets at stumps. They will look ahead to accelerate their run-scoring process & chase the mammoth target to snatch victory from the hands of the hosts.
