BAN vs IND, T20 World Cup: Nurul Hasan accuses Kohli of Fake Fielding

After Bangladesh’s five-run loss in a crucial IND vs BAN T20 World Cup fixture, Bangladesh’s Wicket-keeper batter Nurul Hasan has claimed that the on-field umpires had missed the incident of fake fielding from Virat Kohli which could have resulted in Bangladesh earning five crucial penalty runs thereby ending match’s results in Bangladesh’s favor.

The incident took place in the seventh over during Bangladesh’s innings when Kohli pretended as if he is relaying an Arshdeep Singh throw from the deep wicket. Neither of the umpires Marais Erasmus and Chris Brown has noticed it nor did the batters Litton das & najmul Hossain Shanto have figured it out.

Nurul told reporters that if the incident was noticed by the on-field umpires the results would have turned in Bangladesh’s favor. India registered a win by five runs as per the DLS method which is the exact margin of the run-penalty associated with fake fielding.

Cricket law 41.5 pertaining to unfair play prohibits the deliberate distraction, deception, or obstruction of the batter & if an incident is considered to be a breach, the umpire can declare that delivery as a dead ball & award the batting team five runs.

“Certainly the field was wet and it had an impact and everyone saw that and eventually what I felt is that when we were talking there was a fake thow and it could have been a five-run penalty and that could have gone our way but unfortunately even that didn’t come,” Nurul told reporters.

Apart from fake fielding, several Umpiring Decisions came under Spotlight during the IND vs BAN Clash

Several other umpiring decisions came under the spotlight during the IND vs BAN clash. During the 16th over of India’s Innings, Virat gestured to the umpire about Hasan Mahmud bowling him two bouncers in one single over violating the rule of one bouncer per over after top-edging an attempted pull. Umpire Erasmus declared it a no-ball which led to a quick 90 seconds discussion between Kohli, Shakib Al Hasan, and Erasmus.

Later in the fixture, Shakib was not happy with the fact of resuming their chase immediately after a heavy spell of rain as the outfield was wet & he wanted the game to resume after some time so that the field becomes a little dry & they can have a fair play. But the umpire was not in favor of delaying the resumption of the play & after having a discussion with Rohit & Shakib the match was resumed. However, in the post-match conference, Shakib didn’t elaborate much on the matter.
