BBL 2022: David Willey pulls out of the Upcoming Season

Sydney Thunder suffers a major blow ahead of the upcoming season of Big Bash League. Thunder’s star batter David Willey who was their platinum signing in the inaugural BBL draft has pulled out of BBL 2022.

David Willey & Sydney Thunder have mutually decided to terminate the contract the club confirmed on Tuesday. “Sydney Thunder regrets David won’t be playing for us this season, but we wish him and his family all the very best for the future,” the Head of Sydney Thunder, Andrew Gilchrist said.

Willey was also a part of England’s squad that won the T20 World Cup 2022 on Sunday but didn’t get a chance to feature even in a single game throughout the tournament. He is known for his ability to deliver economical overs as well as do big-hitting with the willow. For the unversed, Willey has registered a couple of tons in the T20 format. With David Willey removing his name from the league, Thunder has begun their search for getting a suitable replacement.

David Willey backing out of BBL 2022 is a major blow for Sydney Thunder as their overseas batters Alex Hales & Rilee Rossouw too will be leaving the league early in January due to their International Commitments. But as we know with bad news always comes good news & the saying comes true for Thunder as their lineup will get bolstered with the services of David Warner who will feature in the league after the completion of the home Test series this summer.

Other Australian stars such as Dave Warner, Jason Sangha, Chris Green, Tanveer Sangha, Ben Cutting & Matthew Gilkes would also play for Sydney Thunder in the BBL 2022. After the completion of the home Test series against West Indies & South Africa, Australia is not slated to play any home international fixtures along with the BBL.

Meanwhile, Sydney Thunder will begin their BBL 2022 campaign against Melbourne Stars at the Manuka Oval on December 13.
