In what comes as a major blow for the organizers of the Australian Big Bash League, veteran English batsman Liam Livingstone has announced to pull out of the BBL 2022-23 that is scheduled to start in the second week of December.
Liam Livingstone has been cited to withdraw due to the increased international workload. Interestingly, Livingstone was the top pick in the inaugural international overseas draft. His absence will truly hurt his franchise as well as his fans.
Livingstone has been the most entertaining and blockbuster factor for major T-20 leagues. He was picked by the Melbourne Renegades franchise and was the most-watched overseas cricketer during the auctions draft.
Livingstone’s withdrawal will definitely impact overseas participation and the broadcaster’s sentiments. Notably, BBL is set to seek and negotiate the Cricket Australia television rights that will be finalized by 2024. It will be interesting to find out how the deal restructures.
Liam Livingstone’s withdrawal leaves Melbourne Renegades Speechless
The Melbourne Renegades franchise was disappointed after Livingstone’s decision. They were excited to have Livingstone in their lineup and made all the necessary arrangements. Earlier, Livingstone was scheduled to play the first half of BBL and then fly to South Africa for their inaugural T-20 League.
Also, Livingstone had been announced in England’s squad for the Pakistan Test series, and to cope with this, Melbourne Renegades had signed a temporary four-match contract with Caribbean all-rounder Andre Russell who would have been available till Livingstone returns from Pakistan.
However, Liam Livingstone has rested all the speculations and announced that he is pulling out from the league. Along with Livingstone, another English platinum overseas athlete David Willey has also announced his withdrawal from the BBL 2022. Senior Australian all-rounder Glenn Maxwell will also miss the championship owing to his fractured leg due to a freaky accident recently.
The withdrawal of platinum cricketers and the temporary unavailability of senior national players will mean that BBL might receive a lowkey response from the fans. However, with T-20 cricket evolving each day, fans won’t miss an opportunity to see their favorite players on the field.
