The BCB President, Nazmul Hasan said on Monday that Tamim Iqbal’s claim that the Board did not communicate with him regarding his future in the T20I format is a “total lie”.
As per the reports from Cricbuzz, Nazmul has stated that Tamim Iqbal had submitted a letter to the board a couple of months back, stating that he is not ready to play T20Is despite Nazmul along with other board directors trying to convince him to play in the T20Is with the T20 World Cup 2022 scheduled in Australia from October. It was Tamim Iqbal who initially took a six-month break from T20Is on January 27. However, on Sunday Tamim took a 360-degree turn & took a dig at the team management for not communicating with him regarding his international future in the T20 format.
”It’s a total lie (that we have not spoken with him regarding his T20). I have called him to my house and requested him (to play T20Is) at least four times,” Nazmul told Cricbuzz on Monday. “Other members of the board also spoke with him and he said that he will not play and now look what he is saying.
”He (Tamim Iqbal) has given in writing that he will not play despite several attempts being made to convince him (to change his mind). So, I don’t understand where the confusion is. What I want to say is that let him say what he wants to say and later we will provide (proof) what we have in our hands.
”That six months is gone (and the letter is not regarding it),” he said.
Nazmul added that he would more than happy to welcome Tamim to the T20I set-up.
”We want him to play (in T20Is) and that is simple. Now, will he play? Does he want to play in the World Cup? If that is the case, he’ll need to play the T20Is against West Indies.”
Now it would be worth noting whether Tamim will feature in the shortest format of Cricket for Bangladesh in the near future.
