The BCCI has achieved another remarkable milestone after it set a new world record for the biggest crowd attendance in a T20 match. The Guinness Book of World Records took into consideration the new record set by India’s Cricket Governing Body.

The BCCI made a formal announcement regarding the stalwart achievement. The rare milestone was achieved during the final match of the 2022 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) where incumbent champions Gujarat Titans took on Rajasthan Royals at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

The IPL final between Hardik Pandya-led Gujarat Titans and Sanju Samason-led Rajasthan Royals took place on 29th May 2022. A total of 1,01,566 showed up on the final to set a new world record for the largest crowd attendance in a T20 match.

Notably, debutant side Gujarat Titans defeated Rajasthan Royals to lift their maiden IPL title.

Narendra Modi Stadium becomes the largest Stadium to host a Crowd of over 1 Lakh

Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad is now regarded as the world’s largest cricket stadium to host a magnificent crowd of over 1 lakh audience. It successfully broke the previously held record of the Melbourne Cricket Ground in Australia. The stadium was recently incorporated in 2021.

The BCCI took to Twitter and announced, “A proud moment for everyone as India creates the Guinness World Record. The record is one for all our fans for their unmatched passion and unwavering support. Congratulations to @GCAMotera and @IPL.”

Meanwhile, BCCI Secretary Jay Shah also expressed his pleasure and took to Twitter to share the marvelous news. Shah tweeted, “Extremely delighted & proud to receive the Guinness World Record for the biggest attendance at a T20 match when 101,566 people witnessed the epic @IPL final at @GCAMotera*s magnificent Narendra Modi Stadium on 29 May 2022. A big thanks to the fans for making this possible! @BCCI.”

The iconic Narendra Modi Stadium was previously known as Motera Stadium and was built in 1982. It was refurbished and renovated by 2021 to be named the biggest cricket stadium across the globe.
