There have been a lot of talks going around about the beginning of Women’s IPL. And ending all the speculations, BCCI President Sourav Ganguly has written a mail to the State Associations on Tuesday stating that the Board is planning to begin Women’s IPL in 2023.
In the mail, Sourav Ganguly wrote, “The BCCI is currently working on the much-awaited Women’s IPL. We are expecting to start the first season early next year.” As the model of Women’s IPL is still being structured, the BCCI hasn’t revealed the exact dates of the beginning of Women’s IPL.
Further in the letter Sourav Ganguly also confirmed that the Men’s IPL will be played in home & away format from the upcoming season.
“The next season of men’s IPL will also go back to the home and away format with all ten teams playing their home matches at their designated venues,” read Ganguly’s letter.
This means all the IPL franchisees will now get a chance to play on their home ground in front of their home crowd which will act as a morale booster for them. This will also benefit the franchise & the BCCI as this will further increase the football in the stadium thereby increasing the revenue.
The introduction of Women’s IPL will be a boon for Women’s Cricket in India
The introduction of Women’s IPL in 2023 will act as a boon for Women’s Cricket in India as it will enhance the quality of the game with increased competitiveness. It will also enable Indian Women’s Cricketers to take a center stage just like their male compatriots. BCCI was already hosting the Women’s T20 Challenge for the last few years & now a separate Women’s IPL will be icing on the cake.
The BCCI is also planning to conduct a U-15 girls tournament this season to groom budding cricketers for the International arena.
“We are glad to introduce a girls u-15 tournament from this season. Women’s cricket has seen phenomenal growth across the world and our national team has been performing well too. This new tournament will create a pathway for our girls to play at the international level”, BCCI said in its statement
The steps BCCI is taking for the growth of Women’s Cricket in India are commendable & will surely help in the enhancement of Women’s Cricket in the Country.
