BCCI to demand Neutral Venue for Asia Cup 2023

BCCI will insist Asian Cricket Council to finalize a neutral venue for Asia Cup 2023 which is slated to be played in Pakistan. After the AGM in Mumbai on Tuesday, the BCCI has arrived at a decision that the Indian team will not travel to Pakistan for the prestigious Asia Cup & will demand that the tournament be moved to a neutral venue.

“Neutral venue for Asia Cup is not unprecedented and we have decided that we will not travel to Pakistan,” Jay Shah, the secretary of the BCCI and also the president of the ACC, said. “I have decided that we will play at a neutral venue,” Shah said.

The Asia Cup 2022 which was slated to be hosted in Sri Lanka was played in the UAE. Now the hosting rights of Asia Cup 2023 which will be played in 50 over format ahead of the World Cup 2023 in India have been allotted to Pakistan. The BCCI initially thought of traveling to Pakistan but during the AGM BCCI Secretary Shah clarified that the question of visiting Pakistan does not arise at all.

As per the sources, BCCI has also refused to comment about India’s participation in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 which is slated to be played in Pakistan. The board stated that there is a lot of time left for the championship.

Asia Cup 2023: BCCI Officials big statement on the ICC Election matter

The BCCI Officials cleared their stance on the ICC election matter by saying that anyone who had been the director of the BCCI is eligible to contest for the position of ICC Chairperson. The matter of BCCI’s representative to the ICC has also been left to the office-bearers. Secretary Jay Shah will be the first choice for this.

The decision comes just a day after West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee appealed Prime Minister Narendra Modi to support Sourav Ganguly for ICC chairmanship

Rajeev Shukla further said that whoever is qualified for the post can file a nomination for ICC Chairperson & the office-bearers will decide further on it. Whether Ganguly will file the nomination is still unknown however it appears that ICC Chairperson Greg Barclay will contest again for the second term. There are also chances for former Deputy Chairperson Imran Khawaja to contest elections. The last date for filing the nomination is Thursday while the election is slated to be held in the second week of November in Melbourne.
