The Board of Cricket Control for India (BCCI) has urged the centrally contracted cricketers to indulge their participation in the ongoing domestic circuit. The red-ball first-class Ranji Trophy 2022 is currently underway and will now witness the participation of some ace national cricketers.
Notably, the top management office bearers have confined the players to play in the domestic format to remain in touch. Another prominent reason why the administrators are advising players to play in the domestic league is to remain fit throughout the year and perform splendidly for the national side.
In its latest Diktat under newly appointed President Roger Binny, BCCI had mentioned and requested all the contracted players to participate in the domestic circuit, especially Ranji Trophy. The all-format players have been excluded from the memorandum in order to provide them with adequate rest.
Ace Indian white-ball specialist batsman Suryakumar Yadav has already confirmed his availability for the Mumbai cricket team and will join the squad ahead of the second round of the Ranji Trophy. Frontline spinner from Haryana Yuzvendra Chahal will also join the squad ahead of their round two fixtures.
Former Test skipper, Ajinkya Rahane and paceman Ishant Sharma had been the notable national team players who also remained available in the first round. Fierce top-order batsmen Ishan Kishan and Sanju Samson have already joined the Jharkhand and Kerala squads ahead of the second round.
While BCCI decision to restrict the national players from playing overseas franchise leagues has been highly criticized, arrangements are being made so that the players remain in touch with cricket by playing domestic cricket. India’s unfortunate exit at the T-20 World Cup is also aligned with the inconsistency in active cricket throughout the year. The second round of the Ranji Trophy is set to kick start on December 20.
