IPL 2021 Points Table, Orange Cap & Purple Cap Leaderboard Updates & Playoffs Scenario, Check it Now!

IPL 2021 Points Table, Orange Cap & Purple Cap Leaderboard Updates & Playoffs Scenario, Check it Now!

Yesterday’s clash between MI & RR was not less than board exams for both the teams as it was a must-win clash for them. However, Mumbai Indians passed these board exams with flying colors by sealing a nervy three wickets win over Rajasthan Royals. With yesterday’s win, Mumbai Indians have moved up to the fifth spot in the IPL 2021 Points Table whereas Rajasthan Royals slopped down to the seventh spot.

Let’s have a look at the updated Points Table

IPL 2021 Points Table

2Chennai Super Kings1394018+0.739
3Royal Challengers Bangalore1284016-0.157

IPL 2021 Playoffs Scenario:

The UAE leg of the IPL 2021 has taken an interesting mode with the league nearing the knockouts stage. Now five league matches are left with KKR, PBKS, RR, MI fighting for the last spot while CSK, DC, RCB have qualified for the knockout stages.

Criteria for KKR’s Qualification to the Playoffs:

KKR needs to win their final league match against RR to secure their place in the Playoffs. With a superior net run rate, a win against RR would directly take them to the playoffs.

If KKR loses the last game against RR then they will get leveled with Mumbai Indians on 14 points. But MI would need to win their final game by a margin of about 120 runs to topple them on net run rate.

One more scenario could be If the KKR loses to RR, then they would require SRH to beat MI, which would leave multiple teams on 12 points each, and KKR’s Superior net run rate would help them to have an edge over others thereby taking them directly to the Playoffs.

Criteria for PBKS Qualification to the Playoffs

Punjab Kings are currently placed at the sixth spot in the IPL 2021 Points Table & have just one match left to keep their playoffs hopes alive. If PBKS wants to qualify for the Playoffs then they have to win their last match against CSK & that too by a big margin. However, winning the clash against CSK won’t end PBKS struggles as they will have to wait for the results of other teams’ clashes also.

They can only get to 12 points and would require neither KKR nor RR & MI to surpass 12 points. For that to happen, PBKS first has to beat table-toppers CSK first, and then RR has to beat KKR, and then MI has to lose to SRH. Currently, PBKS’s net run rate is -0.241 and they would require a big win against CSK to surpass other contenders in the Playoffs race, especially KKR. Looking at the huge criteria for PBKS qualification to the playoffs & their average performances in group matches, it seems like the chances of PBKS qualification in the Playoffs are very less.

Criteria for RR’s Qualification to the Playoffs:

Languishing on the second last spot in the IPL 2021 Points table the chances of RR’s qualification is almost over after facing a defeat at the hands of MI in yesterday’s clash.

RR will have to beat KKR in the final match of their league stage to stay in contention for the Playoffs.  However, in case of a 12-point tie, RR will need a massive win to topple KKR’s net run-rate as after their defeat to MI, RR’s NRR tumble to – 0.241. KKR is far ahead with a decent NRR of + 0.241.

Criteria for MI Qualification to the Playoffs

Mumbai Indians have saved themselves from getting out of the Playoffs race by winning yesterday’s must-win clash against Rajasthan Royals. The MI will now need to beat SRH in their final clash of the league stage to keep running in the race for the Playoffs.

However, MI’s struggled won’t end here as KKR’s net run rate is far ahead of them. So in order to secure a playoff spot, MI needs to beat Sunrisers by over 120 runs to topple KKR’s run rate. A win over SRH and defeat for KKR will see MI qualify for the playoffs.

Meanwhile, eighth-placed SRH is already out of the Playoffs Race

IPL 2021 Orange Cap Leaderboard

RR’s Captain Sanju Samson lagged behind in the race for the Orange Cap with 483 runs in his kitty. He failed to reach 500 runs mark after he got dismissed cheaply against Mumbai Indians. “Age shouldn’t be the criteria to select Players”, says Sachin Tendulkar!

Sachin Tendulkar has a say in the debate of whether Young players should be given a chance to play in the National team with an eye on the T20 World Cup. Tendulkar said that age shouldn’t be the criteria while selecting players & the best XI should be given a chance to play in the Indian team.

“One thing I want to say clearly is that the point is not just about selecting young players, it is about picking capable players. It is a matter of selecting players for the National team & here age should not be the criteria. It is about what you can deliver & that is what matters. If someone can perform though he is not a young cricketer, if you can perform exceptionally then you should be definitely playing for India”, quoted Sachin Tendulkar as saying.

Talking about giving chance to young players to play for the national team Sachin said, “It is not just about age, it’s just a myth that we should only promote young cricketers. I feel that we should select our best 11 players. The selection committee should select the best 14-15 embers squad & it should be left on them”, Sachin added.

Sachin Tendulkar believes that facing top-quality bowlers in the IPL has groomed youngsters to face tough situations at the International level.

Further speaking about the spectacular form of Suryakumar Yadav & Ishan Kishan, Sachin said, “Both the youngsters are really doing well & they haven’t faced difficulty in playing against top-quality bowlers for India is because they have already played against them in the Indian Premier League. For us the things were different. When I went to Pakistan & Australia, I was playing all those bowlers for the first time & that to on International level”.

“It’s a big difference, you know what to expect from them & that is what has happened. That is the beauty of our structure of game & we can see that our bench strength is really good”, Sachin explained

On this day in 1983, India recorded history by winning the first World Cup

25th June 1983, the day when a young Indian side defeated all the odds and lifted its maiden World Cup title in England. All the Indians were overwhelmed by the remarkable achievement of the cricket team who created history.

India defeated West Indies in the final of the ICC World Cup 1983 at Lord’s Stadium in London. The day will never be forgotten by every Indian cricket fan as they never expected the contingent to win the title where strong teams including West Indies and England were resilient.

India had a disappointing campaign at the 1975 and 1979 World Cup where they were knocked out in the group stage of the tournament. To earn a mark in world cricket, it was important for India to benchmark their performance in the 1983 World Cup.

India’s campaign at the World Cup began on an unprecedented note where they defeated top teams including West Indies, Zimbabwe, and Australia. India managed to finish second in their group and qualify for the semifinals.

India faced stiff resistance against England in the semifinals but they overpowered them to take on West Indies in the Finals. In what was a breathtaking final match, India managed to stay on the top and clinch a win to lift the World Cup.

West Indies too was destructive in their World Cup campaign. They crushed Pakistan by eight wickets in the semifinals and were in the hunt to win their third consecutive World Cup title.

Put in to bat first by West Indies, India rode on to a disappointing start as opener Sunil Gavaskar was out for 2. Thereafter, Kris Srikanth and Mohinder Amarnath built a 57-run stand after which Kris was dismissed. A brilliant bowling attack by West Indies bundled out India for a mere total of 183.

Amarnath (26), Sandeep Patil (27), and Kapil Dev (15) were the only frontline batsman who could make an impact. For West Indies, Andy Roberts (3/32) and Michael Holding (2/26) were the picks of the bowlers.

Chasing a modest total of 184, West Indies was bundled out for a mere total of 140 runs. Mohinder Amarnath and Madan Lal were the stars amongst the bowlers who registered a figure of 3/12 and 3/31 respectively. Kapil Dev and Sandhu chipped in a couple of wickets apiece.

PCB to separate central contracts for men’s white and red ball cricket

PCB to separate central contracts for men’s white and red ball cricket

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on Friday announced that it will initiate separate central contracts for men’s white ball and red ball cricketers. The iconic move will revamp the streamlined procedure for handing out central contracts.

Addressing the media, PCB Chairman Ramiz Raja announced that the move was necessary to effectively incentivize the players and reward the efforts taken by the athletes in each format. This will boost the morale of the cricketers which will be reflected in their performance.

After the decision implies and central contracts are allotted to the players next month, the number of contracts for men’s cricketers will rise from 20 to 33. This means more players will get a chance to feature in Pakistan’s national cricket team and contribute their part.

In addition to the men’s central contracts, the PCB also portrayed its concern for women athletes. The number of centrally contracted women’s cricketers will increase from 18 to 25 and their salaries will also increase by 15%.

Chairman Ramiz Raja also highlighted the significance of splitting the white-ball and red-ball contracts for men’s cricket players. He mentioned that the white-ball contracts will recognize the importance of the limited-overs game and help in its growth and development.

Raja also asserted the fact that there are four international events lined up in the next 16 months, including two World Cups. In such a situation, the recognition of offering white-ball contracts will help the management to develop two distinct squads that will play their role according to the format of the game.

The increase in women’s contracts will also develop the importance of Women’s cricket in Pakistan. Raja stressed the fact that the performance of Pakistan’s women contingent was marvelous in Sri Lanka where Tuba Hassan became the first ICC Player of the month from Pakistan. Meanwhile, Pakistan also won its first Women’s World Cup match in 13 years.

WI vs BAN 2022: Saifuddin, Yasir Ali ruled out of the White ball leg due to back injury

WI vs BAN 2022: Saifuddin, Yasir Ali ruled out of the White ball leg due to injuries

WI vs BAN 2022: Bangladesh suffered a massive jolt as Mohammad Saifuddin & Yasir Ali both have been ruled out of their white-ball leg of the West Indies series due to their back injuries. It is understood that Saifuddin was not deemed fit enough to bowl after recovering which has forced him to stay out of the white ball leg as well. Yasir Ali too was ruled out of the ODIs & T20Is on Wednesday owing to his grueling back injury.

After recovering from a back injury, Saifuddin trained with the white ball specialists in Dhaka during the last few weeks when his bowling fitness was deemed insufficient. Meanwhile, Yasir suffered a back injury during Bangladesh’s practice match in Coolidge which ruled him out of the Test series & white-ball leg of the West Indies tour.

“Although Saifuddin is training, we feel that at the moment he has not reached the bowling fitness level required to cope with the intensity of international cricket. He will miss the West Indies series as he continues his rehab and works on his fitness,” Dr. Debashis Chowdhury, BCB’s chief sports physician, said.

“Yasir Ali has not been recovering as anticipated from his back injury and could not start his rehab,” Bangladesh physio Bayjedul Islam said. “As he is still restricted in his physical work after nearly two weeks of rest, we can conclude that his injury time will be extended. He will be missing the remaining matches and is therefore out of the West Indies series.”

Selectors might consider including Tamim Iqbal, Najmul Hossain Shanto, Mehidy Hasan Miraz, and Ebadot Hossain in the T20I squad who are a part of ODIs & Test teams. The ODIs are the last segment of the West Indies tour so selectors don’t have to bring in a replacement from Dhaka.

With Yasir & Saifuddin’s injury, Bangladesh’s injury count for the tour has reached three as earlier pacer Shoriful Islam has already been ruled out of the Tests and T20Is due to a side strain he suffered during training.

Yasir Ali made his international debut in all three formats in the last eight months & rose to glory after being with the Test squad throughout 2021. He was seen as a perfect replacement for Mushfiqur Rahim who has pulled out of the West Indies tour in order to perform Hajj.  Saifuddin on the other hand has been injury-prone most of the time in his five-year International career. He got the back injury during the T20 World Cup last year & hasn’t recovered from it fully.

The second Test of the series will begin on Friday before the T20Is are played on July 2, 3, and 7 in Roseau and Providence. The three ODIs will be played in Providence on July 10, 13, and 16.
