CA paves way for lifting David Warner's lifetime Leadership Ban

There comes good news for Warner! The swashbuckling opener can again become eligible for captaincy as Cricket Australia has amended its code of conduct policy. This means David Warner can now formally apply to modify his lifetime leadership ban & become the front-runner for Australia’s Captaincy.

Previously, David Warner was unable to hold the position of captaincy in Australian Cricket after being awarded a lifetime leadership ban due to his involvement in the 2018’s ball-tampering scandal. Under Cricket Australia’s previous code of conduct, players don’t have the right to have a sanction reviewed once it was accepted by a player. But to modify Warner’s lifetime ban, CA had requested a code of conduct review in CA’s Board meeting held in October by CA’s Head of Integrity Jacqui Partridge. CA’s all efforts reaped fruits as on Monday it released a statement stating that the recommendations of that review have been accepted & granted formal approval.

CA’s Code of Conduct Change will help to lift the leadership Ban Imposed on David Warner

“Under the changes, players and support staff can now apply to have long-term sanctions modified,” the statement said.

“Any applications will be considered by a three-person Review Panel, comprising independent Code of Conduct Commissioners, which must be satisfied that exceptional circumstances exist to justify modifying a sanction.”

The statement further elaborated on the term ‘circumstances’ by stating that it will include whether the subject of the sanction feels guilty about his/her act, the conduct & behavior of the subject since the imposition of sanction on him/her, whether the rehabilitation programs have been undertaken & the amount of time passed since the sanctions were imposed. It will also consider whether enough time has passed to allow for reform or rehabilitation.

David Warner has been keen to take up the leadership role in the national team having captained the IPL since CA imposed a lifetime leadership ban on him. Recently he has also opened up on his wish to take up a leadership role with Sydney Thunder after making a comeback to BBL. He also hinted that he wants to play International Cricket until T20 World Cup 2024 & might also take up a leadership role if provided with an opportunity.
