Cheteshwar Pujara receives prestigious Arjuna Award from Sports Minister

India’s star batter Cheteshwar Pujara received the prestigious Arjuna Award from Sports Minister, Anurag Thakur on Saturday which he was due to receive in 2017. The BCCI recommended Cheteshwar Pujara for the prestigious trophy in 2017 but he couldn’t receive it at that time as he was busy playing in English County Club.

However, after receiving his due award from the Sports Minister on Saturday Pujara extended thanks to the minister for handing him his award belatedly & the BCCI for recommending his name for the honors.

“Thankful to @IndiaSports @BCCI and @ianuragthakur to organize and handover the Arjuna Award belatedly, which I could not collect the year it was awarded to me due to my cricket commitments. Honored and grateful,” he tweeted after getting the award from Sports Minister Anurag Thakur.

Coming to Pujara’s career he was the center of attraction of India’s 13 Test home season in 2017 where he starred by amassing 1316 runs which is the highest-ever aggregate for an Indian batter in a single Test season. Earlier in 2022, Pujara extended his County Contract with Sussex Club for the upcoming County Championship 2023

Cheteshwar Pujara bags a rare record in County Cricket

After joining Sussex Club last year Pujara turned the heads around by scoring over 1000 County Championship runs, including a record-breaking three double tons & ending the season with an average of 109.4. His outstanding form continued into the 50-over format Royal London Cup as well where he captained the team in the absence of injured Tom Haines & led the team into the semifinals.

In his nine RL50 appearances Pujara averaged 89.14 at a strike rate of 111.62, with his highest score of 174 coming against Surrey in 131 balls.

Though Pujara has achieved a good name in County Cricket he has failed to prove his mettle for the National team in the longest format of Cricket. After his constant failures to deliver on the International front Pujara once considered a Test specialist had been sidelined by the National team.
