CPL 2022: Munro, Seifert, Theekshana & Prasanna joins TKR as overseas Signings

Trinbago Knight Riders have made a major move by signing the New Zealand pair of Colin Munro and Tim Seifert, and also Sri Lanka’s Maheesh Theekshana and Seekkuge Prasanna as a part of their overseas draft for the upcoming season of the CPL 2022 commencing on August 31st. The franchise has also retained the services of USA’s Ali Khan for the upcoming edition of the CPL. This means he will be there with the TKR for one more season having joined the line-up in 2017.

“We are very happy with our overseas signings this year. The idea was to maintain the core of the team, while adding a few new resources to bolster the squad for CPL 2022,” Venky Mysore, Knight Riders’ director, said.

Ali, Munro, Seifert & Prasanna all have enjoyed successful stints with TKR in the past. However, it would be a completely new experience for Theekshana who hasn’t featured in CPL yet. Munro has been associated with TKR since 2016 & is their leading overseas run-getter in the tournament with 2020 runs in 65 matches.

Theekshana who will make his debut in CPL with the upcoming edition has been signed by the TKR franchise on the basis of his back-to-back impressive performances in both franchise & International cricket. He featured in LPL 2020 for Jaffna Kings just once but was successful in scalping 16 wickets at an economy rate of 6.87 for them in ten games in 2021. Theekshana also left his impression in the Abu Dhabi T10 League by featuring for Delhi Bulls & guiding them to the title triumph by producing a Player-of-the-Match performance of 3 for 14 in the final.

His exploits in franchise cricket have helped him to make his debut for the National team in white-ball formats during the home series against South Africa. Theekshana then made his maiden appearance in IPL 2022 for CSK & returned with 12 wickets in nine matches.

As far as local signings are concerned, Trinbago Knight Riders had secured the services of veteran all-rounder Andre Russell who will join Kieron Pollard, Sunil Narine, and Nicholas Pooran at the franchise. Knight Riders have five vacant slots to be filled to complete their roster for CPL 2022. The upcoming edition of the CPL 2022 will kickstart with the first match between St Kitts and Nevis Patriots and Jamaica Tallawahs in Basseterre on August 31.
