What comes as a sign of relief for team India is that the entire Indian team including eight players who were termed as close contacts for Krunal Pandya have tested negative for COVID-19. The negative test results of the entire Indian squad have arrived on Tuesday night.
However, it is still not clear whether the eight players will play in today’s match or not. All eight of them have been asked to stay indoors in isolation till further instructions. Meanwhile, the rescheduled second T20I between Sri Lanka & India is likely to be played today as the entire Indian squad except Krunal Pandya has returned with negative results in the RT-PCR tests.
The second T20I between India & Sri Lanka which was initially slated to be played on 27th July was rescheduled for 28th July after Krunal Pandya tested positive for COVID-19 on Tuesday morning. “Hopefully the match could be played today,” said a top SLC official. The Sri Lanka Cricket officials have moved Krunal to another hotel. The Indian team members, however, continue to remain at the Taj Samudra Hotel in Galle Street in Colombo.
“Yes, we have moved Krunal to an intermediate care hotel Mount Lavinia,” confirmed SLC secretary Mohan de Silva. It is still not specified that for how long Krunal Pandya will be kept in isolation. However, all the other players of the Indian squad except Krunal Pandya will be seen into action today in the 2nd T20I on the grounds of R.Premadasa Stadium in Colombo.
The Stakeholders & Sponsors of the Sri Lanka cricket have been informed that the remaining two T20Is will be played on Wednesday & Thursday as announced. “We should know by afternoon about the fate of the game but there should not be any issues with the game,” said a stakeholder. India is leading the three-match T20I series with a 1-0 score after clinching the ODI series by a 2-1 score.
