Ashes 2021, Australia vs England 2nd Test, Day 3 Australia bundle England for 236 runs

Ashes 2021, Australia vs England 2nd Test, Day 3: After bundling England out for 236 runs in the second innings, Australia didn’t enforce the follow-on and decided to bat again. Australia are currently at 45 for 1 at stumps on Day 3 of the pink-ball Test on Saturday. The Aussies are in firm control of the game, having managed to attain a lead of 282 runs.

England wouldn’t too happy given how Joe Root and David Malan started the day. The duo put on a strong partnership and didn’t allow the Aussies to take early wickets on Day 3. Root and Malan added 138 for the third wicket and took the total to 150-mark.

However, Australia pulled things back after Green once again got rid of Joe Root. The latter got Root to nick one to Steve Smith at the slip cordon. He scored 62 runs off 116 balls. David Malan soon followed him as Mitchell Starc sent him back to the hut in the 52nd over. Malan made 80 off 157 before giving Smith another catch at slips.

Wickets fell in a cluster after that as England found themselves bundled out for just 236 runs. Jos Buttler, once again, failed to hit the straps as he edged the ball straight to David Warner. Ollie Pope could only add 5 runs to the total before Lyon sent him back to hut. Ben Stokes and Chris Woakes stitched a decent partnership but not as big as the team would have wanted. Woakes got out after adding 24 more runs to the total.

Ben Stokes fought hard but fell short of partners at the other end. He eventually got out off Chris Green as the former chopped one onto his stumps after scoring 34 off 98 deliveries. Australia currently have a 282-run lead and it’s nearly impossible for England to win the Test from here.
