Australia vs Bangladesh: What comes as a major blow for Bangladesh is that Mushfiqur Rahim has been forced to miss the home series against Australia due to stringent COVID-19 protocols demanded by Australia. Bangladesh Cricket feels that the visitors are demanding much in terms of COVID-19 protocols.
BCB & CA had agreed to account for the bio-bubbles of their previous tours to be included as a part of their ten days quarantine in Dhaka. This means that for Bangladesh-their bubble in Zimbabwe and for Australia-their bubble in West Indies should be considered as a part of extended quarantine in their ongoing quarantine.
Previously Mushfiqur Rahim had to leave Bangladesh’s bio-bubble in Harare to return home after his parents contracted COVID-19. As a result, he can’t be in the Dhaka bio-bubble now. This is a major setback for Bangladesh’s squad as they feel that denial of Rahim’s entry into the Dhaka bio-bubble is “unfair”.
“It is unfair what happened with Mushfiq,” a member of Bangladesh’s tour party to Zimbabwe, told ESPNCricinfo. “We came in a commercial flight passing through three airports so I don’t know if it makes much sense to keep Mushfiq out of the series. He went back home from the middle of a tour for a family problem. So to not allow him to enter the quarantine after just two or three days, is not right.”
Bangladesh wicket-keeper batsman Mushfiqur Rahim was gearing up to play T20Is against Australia but his parents ill health resulted in a sudden change of plans. However the BCB has requested CA to reconsider their stance for Rahim, but no change in their decision has been reported yet.
“The agreement between CA and BCB says that there is no chance for allowing anyone from outside into the bio-bubble,” a BCB official said as quoted by ESPNCricinfo.
“We have to hold the series with only those inside the bio-bubble. There will be challenges but this is the new normal. I think the selectors have picked the players who are best available during this scenario. There are no alternatives but to take our best available options”, the Official added.
