BAN vs AUS, 2nd T20I: Mustafizur Rahman’s three wickets haul & Afif Hossain’s unbeaten 37 runs knock helped Bangladesh defeat Australia by five wickets in the second T20I here at the Shere-e-Bangla National Stadium on Wednesday.
With this thrilling win, Bangladesh took a 2-0 lead in the five-match test series against Australia. The third T20I will be played on Friday, 6th August. Chasing an average target of 122 runs, Bangladesh got off to a poor start as Soumya Sarkar (0) was dismissed by Mitchell Starc in the third over of the innings. In the very next over, Mohammed Naim (9) was sent back to the pavilion by Josh Hazlewood reducing Bangladesh to 21/2. Shakib-Al-Hasan also departed after playing a knock of 26 runs, & Bangladesh was reduced to 58/3 just in the 9th over, still needing 64 runs for the win.
However, Afif Hossain 37* & Nurul Hasan 22* steadied Bangladesh’s innings by scoring some crucial runs & helped Bangladesh to register a stunning five wickets win with eight balls to spare.
Earlier, Mustafizur Rahman scalped three wickets to reduce Australia to a below-average total of 121/7 in twenty overs. Australia lost both of its openers within the power play as Alex Carey (11) & Josh Phillipe (10) failed to create a difference with bat & Australia was reduced to 31/2 right in the sixth over. Mitchell Marsh (45) & Moises Henriques (30) then steadied Australia’s innings by stitching a 57 run stand for the third wicket. They were able to score runs but not able to register regular boundaries. As a result, pressure started building & once they were dismissal, Australia’s innings got derailed & the team was reduced to a total under 125 runs mark.
