BAN vs PAK Test: Pakistan named 12 member squad for the first test

BAN vs PAK 1st Test: Pakistan has named a 12 man squad for the first test against Bangladesh. The five-day test will begin at the Ch. Zahoor Ahmed Cricket Stadium, Chittagong on Friday.  This test series succeeds the three-match T20I series which was bagged by Pakistan who won the series with a 3-0 score.

The 12 man squad announced by Pakistan doesn’t feature star leg spinner Yasir Shah who has been out of action since September due to an injury. The leg spinner who has been an integral part of the Pakistan test squad since 2014 has scalped 235 wickets in 46 tests.

Babar Azam will lead the test squad with uncapped player Abdullah Shafique coming into the squad. The squad has excluded Imran Butt from the squad thus Shafique will open the innings along with Abid Ali. Imam-Ul-Haq has received a call-up for the first test against Bangladesh. In the absence of Imran Butt, Imam-Ul-Haq could be the frontrunner as Abid Ali’s partner. Shaqfiue had a short first-class career but still, he averages an impressive 86.33. The right-handed batsman has so far scored 259 runs in three First-Class innings, scoring two centuries.

Though Pakistan is in a blistering form & has an upper hand over Bangladesh the ‘Men in Green’ are not taking their opponents lightly.

“Conditions here are different [than Pakistan is used to] hence we cannot take Bangladesh lightly,” Babar Azam said addressing a press conference.

“These conditions are a bit difficult and batters have to stick around on the crease to get settled,” he added.

On the other hand, Bangladesh will be without the services of their star all-rounder Shakib-Al-Hasan in the first test who has been out of action since the T20 World Cup in Oman & UAE due to a hamstring injury. However, Shakib has been included in the test squad & could feature in the second test if he gets fit on time. The second test will commence on December 4 at the Sher-e-Bangla Stadium.

What comes as another major blow for the Bangladesh cricket board is the absence of their star player Tamim Iqbal as he is still recovering from an injury which he sustained during the Everest Premier League 2021. According to medical reports, Tamim will remain out of action for a few more months
