Bangladesh vs New Zealand: What comes as a major setback for the Bangaldesh national cricket team ahead of the ICC T20 World Cup 2021 is that Mushfiqur Rahim has stepped down from his wicket-keeping duties in the T20 format with immediate effect.

Bangladesh Cricket team Board that Mushfiqur Rahim will take the gloves from Nurul Hasan after the completion of the first three T20Is against New Zealand in ongoing Bangladesh vs New Zealand T20I series. However, to add to their disappointment, Rahim has declared his decision of giving up wicket-keeping in the T20 format of cricket.

Mushfiqur Rahim is the Tigers’ most successful wicketkeeper in T20Is resulting in 61 dismissals in 89 matches. Of those, the catches include 32 dismissals and the remaining 29 are stumpings.

Confirming Mushfiqur Rahim’s decision of exiting from wicket-keeping duties in the shortest format of cricket, Domingo said, “There has been a change after speaking to Mushfiqur Rahim. He was going to keep after the second game. Mushfiq told me that he probably doesn’t want to keep in T20 cricket anymore. We got to move on. I don’t think Mushfiq’s desire to keep is great in this format anymore. So we got to focus on Sohan and possibly let him do the duties going into the competition”.

Russell Domingo emphasized the need of grooming Nurul Hasan for doing wicket-keeping in the next two T20I against New Zealand. Nurul Hasan has done a fantastic job as a wicket-keeper & a batsman which is evident from his stellar performance in the recently ended T20Is against Australia.

Mushfiqur Rahim led the fightback for the hosts in the third T20I against New Zealand.

Mushfiqur Rahim led the fightback against New Zealand in the third T20I by staying unbeaten at 20 while chasing a total of 129. However, the Black Caps displayed a disciplined bowling attack to restrict Bangladesh at 76 thereby registering a 52 run win in the third T20I. With this victory, New Zealand kept themselves alive in the five-match T20I series.

New Zealand was reduced to a meager 62-5 after batting first in Dhaka, Bangaldesh. However, Tom Blundell & Henry Nicholls joined hands to help the Black Caps register a defendable total. New Zealand bowlers also stepped up with Ajaz Patel scalping four wickets and Cole McConchie fetched three wickets to guide New Zealand to a crucial win. Ajaz Patek also won the ‘Man of the Match’ Award for his match-winning four-wicket haul.

New Zealand will come into a face-off with Bangaldesh in the fourth T20I of the series on 8th September 2021 at 3.30 pm in the Sher-E-Bangla stadium.
