Bangladesh vs New Zealand 5th T20I: Tom Latham’s blistering fifty helped visitors to defeat hosts by 27 runs

Bangladesh vs New Zealand 5th T20I: Riding on the back of a stunning half century by New Zealand’s Captain Tom Latham supported by a disciplined bowling attack by Ajaz Patel & Scott Kuggeleijn, visitors managed to defeat Bangladesh by 27 runs in the fifth T20I of the five match T20I series at the Sher-E-Bangla National Stadium, Dhaka on Friday.

Chasing a decent total of 163 runs, Bangladesh got off to a poor start as they lost their four batsmen within 10 overs. Only Mohammad Naim could deliver with the bat by scoring 23 runs from the top order as Liton Das, Soumya Sarkar and Mushfiqur Rahim failed to impress.

After scalping early wickets, Afif Hossain & Bangladesh captain Mahmudullah stitched a solid partnership. At one point it seemed like Bangladesh will register a win but it was New Zealand’s bowling performance that kept Bangladesh at bay.

Earlier in the first innings, Finn Allen & Ranchin Ravindra’s heroics with the bat followed by a stupendous fifty by Tom Latham helped New Zealand to post a total of 162 runs by losing five wickets in their quota of 20 overs. Earlier New Zealand won the toss & opted to bat first. New Zealand’s openers stepped up to post 58 runs opening stand. Allen scored 41 runs in just 24 balls with the help of four boundaries and three maximums while his partner Ranchin Ravindra played an anchor role in the partnership by scoring 17 runs in 12 balls in an innings comprising three boundaries.

Tom Latham came to bat at No 3 & went back to the pavilion by scoring an unbeaten 50 in 37 balls. Latham hit two boundaries & two sixes. He played with a strike rate of 135. Henry Nicholls and Cole McConchie gave New Zealand the much-needed finish by scoring 21 and 17 runs respectively. On the other hand, Bangladesh’s Shoriful Islam scalped two wickets by conceding 48 runs in four overs. Afif Hossain, Taskin Ahmed and Nasum Ahmed chipped in with one wicket each.

However despite losing the 5th T20, Bangladesh has already clinched the five match T20I series against New Zealand with 3-2 score.
