BCCI approves five day tests for the Indian Women’s Team in the AGM

The BCCI held its 90th AGM on December 4 in Kolkata & in the meet, the board has confirmed the postponement of India’s tour of South Africa by one week along with the abandonment of the T20Is from the tour itinerary.

The tour which was scheduled to begin on 17th December will now kick off on December 26 with the first test of the series to be played between India & South Africa. Both the boards have engaged in prolonged negotiations over the destiny of the tour which came under doubt because of the outbreak of the serious Omricon virus, a variant of COVID-19 in South African countries. However, both the boards have come into an agreement to postpone the tour by one week & to abandon the T20Is.

During the board’s AGM, the BCCI has also taken a remarkable decision of approving five-day test matches for the women’s team who has largely palyed in the four-day format.

As per the reports, Brijesh Patel & MKJ Majumdar rejoined the IPL Governing Council meet whereas Pragyan Ojha was selected to continue as the representative of the Indian Cricket Association. The seven-member GC consists of two office-bearers (secretary and treasurer – Jay Shah and Arun Singh Dhumal), CEO (Hemang Amin), one representative from Players’ Association (Ojha), a nominee of the CAG (CM Sane), and two members elected by the AGM (Brijesh and Majumdar).

During the AGM, the BCCI has also announced the formation of the Tours, Fixtures and Technical Committee, Umpires Committee, and Differently Abled Cricket Committee. The age limit for match officials and support staff has been increased to 65 from 60 years, subject to their fitness. During the meet, the BCCI also discussed infrastructure development in the North-Eastern States, Puducherry, Bihar, and Uttarakhand.

Among other announcements from the AGM were the adoption of the annual budget and audited accounts by the General Body for FY 2021-22.
