IND vs SL: Sri Lanka Cricket gets a sigh of relief as Dasun Shanaka signed Sri Lanka’s tour contract for the limited overs series against India & ended the standoff between players & SLC. Now Dasun Shanaka will replace Kusul Perera as the captain of the limited-overs series team. Perera was already appointed as the captain of Sri Lanka’s limited-overs series team in May this year & has led the team in the limited-overs series against Bangladesh & England.
Earlier, the SLC has announced that the Cricket Board would appoint a second string against India if the players did not agree to sign the contract with SLC. If Shanaka’s appointment is confirmed then he would become Sri Lanka’s sixth captain in less than four years. Dinesh Chandimal, Angelo Mathews, Lasith Malinga, Dimuth Karunaratne, and Perera are playing the role of Captain since the start of 2018.
Recently, Sri Lanka toured England for limited-overs series but due to their poor performance, the Lankan team failed to win even a single match on their England tour. They had suffered 3-0 defeat in T20Is & a 2-0 loss in ODIs.
Even Sri Lanka cricket had suspended three Sri Lankan Cricketers- Niroshan Dickwella and Kusal Mendis and Danushka Gunathilaka, for breaching COVID-19 bio-bubble restrictions in Durham England. These three Sri Lankan cricketers were caught on camera, roaming on Durham streets & thereby breaching the COVID-19 protocols. The suspended players will not feature in the limited-overs series against India as announced by Sri Lanka cricket. Sri Lanka will come into a face-off with India in three ODIs & three T20Is starting from July 13.
