Eng vs IND, 1st Test: Mohammad Shami strikes twice to reduce hosts to 138/4 at tea break

ENG vs IND, 1st Test: Dominic Sibley (18) & Jonny Bairstow (29) were dismissed in the second session as England was reduced to 138/4 on Day 1 of the first Test at Trent Bridge, Nottingham on Wednesday.

At the tea break on Day 1, England’s score is 138/4 with Joe Root (52) stayed unbeaten at the crease. Mohammed Shami struck twice to remove Sibley & Bairstow in the second session of Day one of the first test match.

After lunch resuming the second session at 61/2, hosts lost Dominic Sibley in the third over as he handed a simple catch to KL Rahul off Mohammad Shami’s delivery. Jonny Bairstow joined Captain Joe Root in the middle overs. Joe Root & Bairstow played cautiously to avoid any further loss of wickets & on the introduction of Ravindra Jadeja the duo became more proactive. Both the duos were playing well but just before the tea break, Shami caught Bairstow for 29 runs to reduce England to 138/4.

Earlier in the first session, Jasprit Bumrah & Mohammed Siraj starred with the ball as they fetched one wicket each. England was reduced to 61/2 at lunch with Sibley 18* & Joe Root 12* staying unbeaten at the crease. Sent into bowl first, India got off to a perfect start as Jasprit Bumrah caught Rory Burns (0) in front of stumps. England lost their first wicket in the very first over then came Zak Crawley to partner with Dominic Sibley at the crease.

Crawley & Sibley played the first ten overs with caution & aggression to get through Bumrah & Shami’s bowling spells. However, the partnership came to an end in the 21st over as Mohammed Siraj dismissed Crawley for 27 runs. England captain Joe Root & Sibley then steadied England’s innings to ensure that the hosts do not lose more wickets till the lunch break.
