Live Cricket Score: Joe Root’s unbeaten 48 runs & Roy Burn’s gutsy 49 runs knock helped England to lead a fightback against India on the second day of India vs England Lord’s Test on Friday.
At stumps, England’s score reads 119/3 they trail by 245 runs with Joe Root 48* & Jonny Bairstow (6*) currently unbeaten at the crease after playing 45 overs. Resuming the final session of Day 2, Mohammed Siraj provided a dream start to India’s bowling attack as in the first over after tea he scalped successive wickets of Dom Sibley & Haseeb Hameed.
Sibley got dismissed in a similar fashion just like Trent Bridge’s dismissal. Then on the very next delivery off Siraj, Haseeb Ahmed was removed from the crease. He missed Siraj’s delivery & got out for a golden duck. England’s captain Joe Root along with opener Rory Burns put efforts to steady England’s innings. Root also achieved another milestone in his career by surpassing Graham Gooch’s 8,900 tets runs to become the second-highest run-scorer in tests for England behind legendary Alastair Cook. Indian pacers bowled tight-length deliveries but Burns & Root were all set to smash them as they helped England to surpass the 100 run mark after playing 38th over of the innings.
However in the additional half an hour of the gameplay, Mohammed Shami removed in-form Burns to give India its big breakthrough. Rory Burns was just one run short of scoring his half-century as he was dismissed for 49 off 136 balls. Jonny Bairstow & joe Root together ensured that England went into day three without losing any further wickets.,
Earlier at tea, England score read 23/0 after 14 overs with Rory Burns 11* & Dom Sibley 11* unbeaten on the crease. During the second session, the host’s bowlers were quick to wrap up India’s innings by dismissing its lower order for 364 runs as visitors lost eight back-to-back wickets for 97 runs.
