ENG vs IND 3rd Test 2021, Day 1: Anderson dismissed India’s top order to reduce visitors at 56/4 on lunch

James Anderson starred with the ball for England after dismissing KL Rahul, Cheteshwar Pujara & Virat Kohli in the first innings on day one of the ongoing ENG vs IND 3rd Test 2021 at Headingley, Leeds on Wednesday.

Ollie Robinson struck in the opening session as he removed Ajinkya Rahane (18) on the verge of lunch break & India was left reeling at 56/4. At lunch break, India’s score reads 56/4 with Rohit Sharma 15* staying unbeaten at the crease. In the first session on the day, one of the third test India scored 56 runs from 25.5 overs.

Opting to bat first, India got off to a poor start as KL Rahul went for 9 off James Anderson’s delivery in the very first over of the innings. KL Rahul played a wide delivery & ended up handling a simple catch to Jos Buttler. Cheteshwar Pujara (1) was also dismissed in the same fashion as he too hit a wide delivery & India suffered an early blow, being reduced to 4/2 in the fifth over of their innings. Virat Kohli then joined Rohit Sharma in the middle & the duo scored 17 runs for the third wicket. However, on the final ball of the 11th over, Virat Kohli (7) went for a cover drive & ended up handing a simple catch to Buttler, reducing India to 21/3.

Ajinkya Rahane joined Rohit Sharma in the middle & the duo revived the innings by scoring 35 runs for the fourth wicket, but right on the verge of lunch break, Ollie Robinson removed Ajinkya Rahane for 18 runs. Earlier, Virat Kohli had won the toss & opted to bat first against England in the third test. India marched in the third test with an unchanged line-up. On the other hand, England made two changes to their line-up by including Dawid Malan & Craig Overton in the squad in place of Dom Sibley & Mark Wood.
