ENG vs IND 3rd Test 2021: India will lock horns with England in the third test match of the Pataudi Trophy on Wednesday, August 25 at the Headingley Stadium in Leeds. India recorded a stunner win in India vs England Lord’s test which was not less than a roller coaster ride for the visitors who clinch Lord’s test to take a crucial 1-0 lead in the five-match test series.
After being sent to bat first KL Rahul and Rohit Sharma helped India get to 126/0 before the latter was dismissed for a 145-ball 83. It was the point when KL Rahul accelerated his innings & registered 212 balls 100 run stand in the third session of day one of the second test. KL Rahul’s glorious knock etched his name in golden words on Lord’s Honors board. Even Indian Captain Virat Kohli supported Rahul on the crease by registering 42 runs off 103 balls.
However, India’s hopes of registering a total of 400 runs died when hosts sent both KL Rahul & Ajinkya Rahane back to the pavilion in the first two overs of Day 2. India’s innings were wrapped up for 364 runs due to a fiery pace attack from England’s pacers.
On the other hand, England started their innings on a good note with captain Joe Root registering a swashbuckling 180* runs knock. Joe Root’s heroics with the bat helped England to control the momentum of the game on day 2 & for a majority part of Day 3. However, England couldn’t turn their good start into perfect innings as except Root no other host’s batsmen could make a mark with the bat & thus England was bowled out for 391 runs, taking a 27 runs lead.
Visitors could have scored a good total on day 4 but India’s openers got dismissed early thereby reducing India to 55 for 3. Under-form batsmen Cheteshwar Pujara & Ajinkya Rahane joined hands to register a 100 run stand in 49.3 overs to steady India’s innings.
With team India looking in trouble at 209/8 on day 5, the Indian lower order comprising Mohammad Shami & Jasprit Bumrah rise up to score an unbeaten 89 run stand for the ninth wicket, setting a target of 272 runs with sixty overs remaining for England to chase. The match was full of drama as a sharp verbal fight was going on between both the teams. Jasprit Bumrah’s barrage of bouncers to James Anderson caused some retaliatory action from the England side in the second innings, which ultimately enabled Bumrah and Shami to score runs.
A charged-up Indian bowling attack successfully bowled England in 51.5 overs, thanks to the deadly pace attack from their four pacers including star pacer Mohammed Siraj in both innings. Mohammed Siraj took 4 wickets, while Bumrah took 3 as India bundled England for just 120 runs to win the game by 151 runs.
Marching into the much-awaited match of test cricket, both India & England will look ahead to script history in the third Test at Headingley. England has made some changes to their playing XI. They dropped, out-form Zak Crawley & Dom Sibley by including Dawid Malan into the test squad. Also, Pacer Saqib Mahmood has been called up to the squad in the absence of injured Mark Wood & Stuart Broad.
