At stumps on day 2, the host’s score was 112/2 & England is still trailing New Zealand by 267 runs. For England, Rory Burns & Joe Root are currently unbeaten on the crease at 59 & 42 respectively. After wrapping up the Black Caps for 378 runs, England got off to a poor start as their opener Dominic Sibley went back to the pavilion for 0 in the fourth over by kyle Jamieson. Soon after the dismissal of Jamieson, Tim Southee removed Zak Crawley for 2 & left England reeling at 18/2.
Joe Root & Rory Burns steadied England’s innings by stitching 93 runs partnership on Day 2
England Captain Joe Root joined Rory Burns in the middle overs & the duo made sure that England reaches the tea break with eight wickets still in their hands. Joe Root & Rory Burns revived England’s innings in the final session of Day 2 by scoring runs cautiously without losing even a single wicket. Both the batsmen ensured that they didn’t fall in the trap of Kiwis bowlers & the hosts don’t lose any wickets in the final session of Day 2. Both Burns & Root have registered a stable 93 runs partnership for the third wicket.
Earlier, on Day 2 the visitors resumed their innings at 246/3. Batsmen Conway & Nicholls added 42 runs in their total of 246 with Conway registering a remarkable 150 runs on his debut. However, the 174 runs stand was broken by Mark Wood in the 98th over as he sent Nicholls back on 61 runs reducing New Zealand to 288/4. Soon Bj Watling (1), Colin De Grandhomme (0), & Mitchell Santner (0) were removed in quick succession, bringing up New Zealand’s total to 294/7. Watling & Santner were dismissed by Wood while De Grandhomme was removed by Ollie Robinson. Then came Kyle Jamieson to accompany Conway in the middle of their innings & the duo ensured that the Black Caps head into the lunch break with three wickets in their hand.
After the lunch break, Jamieson (9) & Tim Southee (8) dispersed early, but the no 11 batter Neil Wagner very well supported Conway & together both the batsmen scored quick runs. In the 122nd over, Conway brought up his glorious double century by smashing six off Wood’s delivery. However, he couldn’t score as he was caught for LBW in the next over, wrapping up New Zealand’s innings for 378 runs.
