ENG vs NZ 2nd Test: Mitchell-Blundell stitches the highest fifth-wicket stand in Test format

New Zealand all-rounder Daryl Mitchell & wicket-keeper batter Tom Blundell created history by weaving the highest fifth-wicket stand for New Zealand in the history of the Longest format of the game. The duo achieved the feat in the second test against England at Trent Bridge at Nottingham.

Both Mitchell & Blundell put up a blistering stand of 236 runs outclassing the previous record of Nathan Astle & Craig McMillan who had stitched up a stand of 222 runs against Zimbabwe at Wellington in 2000.

Talking about the match, New Zealand is in a dominating position thanks to this match-winning stand between Blundell & Daryll Micthell on day 2 of the secodn test match. Currently, their scoreboard reads 446-5 with 118 overs being bowled. Micthell is unbeaten on the crease with 150 scores while Michael Bracewell is unbeaten at 17*.

The other batters who contributed to their scoreboard are Will Young (47), Devon Conway (46) & Henry Nicholls (30). All were blazing guns in front of England’s fiery bowling attack. James Anderson is still England’s star bowler with 2-54 in 22 overs.

Meanwhile, the duo of Mitchell & Blundell are looking in sublime touch in the series so far. Daryll Mitchell scored 13 runs & 108 runs in the first Test at Lord’s followed by Blundell who scored 14 & 96 in that same match. They went ahead to stitch a powering 195-run stand to take their home near victory. However, that stand went in vain as England defeated New Zealand by five wickets in the first Test to take a 1-0 lead.

ENG vs NZ 2nd Test: Brief Scores

New Zealand 446-5 in 118 overs (Daryl Mitchell 150*); Tom Blundell 106, James Anderson 2-54) against England
