ENG vs NZ 3rd Test: England crushed New Zealand by seven wickets in the third and final test to whitewash the series by 3-0. England was convincing throughout the series and did not stand any chance for New Zealand to get through their gates.

Jonny Bairstow and Joe Root benchmarked their performance to set the stage for England. Jack Leach was the star of the match who picked his maiden 10-wicket haul to restrict New Zealand to score enough runs on the board.

Winning the toss and electing to bat first, New Zealand put up a total of 329 runs on the board. Daryl Mitchell scored his third consecutive ton and starred in the Kiwi innings with his 109 runs knock. Wicketkeeper Tom Blundell too contributed with his 55 runs knock.

For England, Jack Leach was the pick of the bowlers who picked up five wickets for 100 runs. Stuart Broad (3/62) also supported Leach in the bowling attack. England were off to a sloppy start in their first innings as they were down to 55/5.

However, the game-changing partnership of Jonny Bairstow (162) and Jamie Overton (97) turned the cards for England. They both added 241 runs for the seventh wicket.

With the help of Bairstow and Overton, England registered a total of 360 runs in their first innings and took a lead of 31 runs. For New Zealand, pacemen Trent Boult (4/104), Tim Southee (3/100), and Neil Wagner (2/75) scalped the English wickets.

Batting in the second innings, New Zealand put up 326 runs and set a target of 296 for the hosts. Tom Blundell (88)* once again put up a remitting show for his side followed by Tom Latham who scored 76 runs. Jack Leach once again stood for his side and picked up five wickets for 66 runs and recorded his 10-wicket haul. He was this time supported by Matthew Potts (3/66).

Chasing a total of 296 runs, England lost two quick wickets but the woes were battled strongly by Ollie Pope (82), Joe Root (86), and Jonny Bairstow (71) who laid the foundation of England’s chase. For New Zealand, Tim Southee and Bracewell chipped in a wicket apiece.
