ENG vs SL: Kevin Pietersen raised a question on Sri Lanka’s performance after the ODI series defeat

Kevin Pietersen

The Sri Lanka Cricket team which is currently in England is having a tough time as they have miserably failed to perform in the ongoing ODI series against England & have already lost the series to hosts. Sri Lanka’s poor performance & disappointing behavior has prompted former England Captain Kevin Pietersen to enquire about the state of the current Sri Lankan team which once had legendary players like Aravinda De Silva & Muttiah Muralitharan among others. “Aravinda, Arjuna, Vaas, Murali, Mahela, Kumar, just to name a few SL players that would have walked into any world 11 at their time. What happened to SL Cricket?” tweeted Kevin Pietersen.

In the ongoing tour of England, Sri Lanka has witnessed a fifth consecutive series defeat in the T20I format. The Lankan team has also lost the ongoing ODI series as England has registered a series-clinching eight wickets win in the 2nd ODI to gain an unassailable 2-0 lead. The third & the final ODI will be played on Sunday in Bristol & this will be the last chance for the Sri Lanka team to win a single match on the ongoing tour.

Looking at Sri Lanka’s record the team has played 10 T20Is since October 2018 & won only one T20I. they have lost two T20Is to England, New Zealand & West Indies & one each to Australia, India & South Africa.

Earlier on Monday, Sri Lanka Cricket has suspended Niroshan Dickwella, Kusal Mendis, & Danushka Gunathilaka for breaching bubble protocols in the UK. The cricketers came under the limelight after a video got viral on social media in which the trio was seen roaming on the streets of Durham & smoking. The trio was suspended from the team & immediately called back to Sri Lanka after the video in which they were seen violating the bio-bubble protocols got viral on the internet.

Sri Lanka Cricket has also announced that Kusal Mendis, Niroshan Dickwell & Danushka Gunathilaka will not be a part of the Sri Lankan team for the limited-overs series against India which will start from July 13.
