ICC Test Player Rankings: Australia’s star batsmen Steve Smith on Wednesday retrieved his number one position in the ICC Men’s Test Player Rankings for the first time since the Boxing Day test held last year.

Steve Smith surpasses New Zealand Captain Kane Williamson who will lead his team in the upcoming WTC final against India. Williamson, who missed the 2nd test against England due to an injury, slipped five points down behind Steve Smith’s 891 rating point. Williamson is the second-ranked player on the batter’s list. Smith proudly occupies the top position in the 167 tests being played worldwide, behind Garry Sobers 189 matches & VIV Richards 179 matches.

Matt Henry’s ‘Player of the Match’ performance has helped him to reach his career-best 307 points & 64th position in the ICC Test Player Rankings list while Ajaz Patel is at his career-best points tally of 323. Devon Conway’s double century right on his debut has helped him to grab 61st position in the list. England’s Dan Lawrence’s unbeaten 81 runs knock in the first innings has lifted him 16 places up to a career-best 396 points.

The latest Men’s weekly update which includes the performances from the first test between South Africa & the West Indies test series in St. Lucia has South Africa’s Quinton De Kock occupying 12th position with India’s Cheteshwar Pujara. De Kock’s companion Adrian Markram has also moved up by two slots to reach the 14th position on the list.

Quinton de Kock who was awarded the “Player of the Match’ award for scoring unbeaten 141 runs that helped Africa to win the first test by an innings & 63 runs has guided De Kock to advance 11 spots up to attain his career-best position since December 2019.

South Africa’s pacers such as Kagiso Rabada have advanced two spots to reach the seventh place after his fabulous five-wicket haul in the second innings of the first test. Anrich Nortje moved up to the top 30 for the first time in his career after ending with seven wickets in the first tets. While Lungi Ngidi moves 14 places up to 44th position with a first-innings five wickets haul.
