IND Vs County Select XI: The Indian players have come into a face-off with County Select XI in the three-day practice match starting from July 20 in Durham. The Indian players are wearing black armbands on the opening day of the practice match as a mark of respect & solidarity for former India batsman Yashpal Sharma who passed away on July 13 due to cardiac arrest.
Taking to Twitter, the BCCI wrote, “#TeamIndia are sporting black armbands to mourn the death of former India cricketer Yashpal Sharmaji, who sadly passed away on 13th July after a cardiac arrest. Head Coach @RaviShastriOfc was his teammate in the 1993 World Cup-winning squad”.
Team India won the toss & opted to bat against county Select XI in the three days warm-up match played in Durham. Certain changes are made in the Playing XI, Virat Kohli & Ajinkya Rahane have been rested for the warm-up match. And so, Rohit Sharma is leading the team India in the warm-up match. Ravichandran Ashwin & Ishant Sharma is also been rested for the clash & in their place, Shardul Thakur & Umesh Yadav have been included in the Playing XI.
After facing a loss in the WTC Finals against New Zealand, India Captain Virat Kohli had expressed his concern about not playing enough practice matches & thus the BCCI requested ECB to arrange for a warm-up match ahead of the England test series.
Last week, Rishabh Pant & Dayanand Garani has tested positive for COVID-19, thus Rishabh pant is not included in the Playing XI. Wriddhiman Saha, Abhimanyu Easwaran & Bharat Arun has also been kept in isolation as they were identified as close contacts of Dayanand Garani. In the absence of Saha & Rishabh Pant, KL Rahul has been included in the squad for the role of wicket-keeping.
As per the reports, Rishabh Pant’s quarantine period ended on Sunday & after post COVID diagnosis, Pant will be free to join the Indian team in Durham for the second practice match. Probably Rishabh Pant will be joining the team India by 22nd or 23rd July in Durham.
According to the reports, the quarantine period for Abhimanyu Easwaran, Wriddhiman Saha, and bowling coach Bharat Arun will end on 24th July. However, the trio has tested negative in an array of tests conducted over the span of time.
