IND vs ENG 1st T20I: A clinical show guides India to a 50 run win over England

IND vs ENG 1st T20I: The IND vs ENG T20I series started with a bang with India winning the first T20I by 50 runs at the Rose Bowl in Southampton & taking a 1-0 lead in the series. Riding on the back of Hardik Pandya’s all-round performance India was able to clinch a big win in the first T20I. Hardik Pandya first amassed 51 runs off 33 balls to help India post a decent 198 runs target on board & later he scalped 4 wickets for 33 runs to help India wrap England’s innings at 148 runs.

A comprehensive show by Hardik, Hooda & Suryakumar powers India to a competitive total

Batting first India got off to a good start with Captain Rohit Sharma adopting an aggressor approach right from the beginning. Rohit joined hands with Ishan & the duo stitched a 29-run stand to give India a decent start. However, soon Rohit was sent packing off Moeen Ali’s delivery after scoring 24 runs off 19 balls. Ishan Kishan too couldn’t get going for long & was dismissed after scoring 8 runs off 9 balls. Then came Deepak Hooda & Suryakumar Yadav to the crease and resurrect India’s innings from there. The duo treated the spectators with some big shots & kept India’s scoreboard ticking. Soon their blooming 43-run stand was broken with Jordan dismissing Hooda after scoring 33 runs off 17 balls.

Hardik Pandya then joined hands with Suryakumar Yadav & the duo smashed England’s bowlers across the aprk to chip in with valuable runs. Their happiness couldn’t stay for long with Suryakumar walking back to the hut after scoring 39 runs off 19 balls, reducing India to 126-4 in 11.4 overs. However, Hardik’s intent on the other end didn’t fall short as he stitched another crucial 45-run fifth-wicket stand with Axar Patel. After Axar Patel’s (17 off 11) dismissal Hardik took the charge of the innings & kept India in a comfortable position. As every good thing comes to an end so as Hardik’s innings got ended when Brook dismissed him. Hardik went back after scoring 51 runs off 33 balls in an innings embellished with six fours & a six.

After Hardik’s dismissal wickets kept falling for India but still they managed to end at 198 for 8 in the allotted 20 overs. For England, the best bowlers were Chris Jordan (2-23) and Moeen Ali (2-26).

Bowlers’ on-point pace attack rattled England’s batting order

In reply, England got off to a pathetic loss with Captain Jos Buttler bowled out by Bhuvneshwar Kumar on the fifth ball of their innings. Further, Hardik Pandya cause damage to England’s batting line-up by removing Dawid Malan (21) in the 5th over followed by the wicket of Livingstone in the same over. England was reeling at 33 for four in 7 overs. Then came Hary Brook on the crease & he along with Jason Roy provided momentum to England’s innings. Harry Brook (28) & Moeen Ali (36) stitched a 61-run rewarding stand to revive England’s innings. Chahal was introduced in the attack & India’s star leg-spinner did what he is known for by removing both the set bowlers in the 13th over, reducing England to 100-6.

Wickets kept falling for England as Reece Topley (9), and Matthew Parkinson all succumbed in front of India’s fierce bowling attack. Soon England’s innings were wrapped up for 148 in 19.3 overs. For India Hardik Pandya starred with the ball as well by returning with figures of 4-33. Chahal & Arshdeep too chipped in with crucial wickets by scalping two wickets each.
