IND vs ENG 1st Test

England wins the toss opts to bat first in the first test at Trent Bridge, Nottingham on Wednesday. Meanwhile, India announced their Playing XI for the first test. KL Rahul will open the batting with Rohit Sharma.

Shardul Thakur has been selected as the fourth seamer while Ravindra Jadeja replaces Ravichandran Ashwin in the Playing XI. Unlike the WTC final, India is playing with one spinner & four pacers in the first test against England.

With Mayank Agarwal & Shubman Gill ruled out of the first test due to injury, KL Rahul is the only option to open the innings with Rohit Sharma.

In the warm-up match, KL Rahul scored a blistering century against County Select XI. Though India’s batting line-up failed miserably, it was KL Rahul & Ravindra Jadeja who starred with the bat in India’s first innings. Earlier also KL Rahul has scored a century as an opener batsman against England in 2018. By looking at Rahul’s past performances he has been handed the opportunity to open innings with Rohit Sharma

India has selected Shardul Thakur as the fourth seamer. Shardul has played magnificent innings during Gabba’s test at Australia’s home test series which helped India to win the Border Gavaskar series against Australia. After scoring 67 at Gabba, many experts have suggested keeping Shardul Thakur in place of Hardik Pandya in the Indian squad. In Gabba’s test match, Shardul scalped seven wickets to guide India to a stupendous victory. Shardul has been sleected for the first test against England on the basis of his spectacular performance during the Gabba test match. Whether he will be able to keep up with the team’s expectations & perform well in the ongoing test series against England is a ‘wait & watch’ thing.
