IND vs ENG 2021: England has announced a 15 member squad for the third test against India which will commence on August 25 at Headingley. What adds to fans’ excitement is the return of Dawid Malan to England’s test squad after three years. Dawid Malan has last made his test appearance in 2018 against India at Edgbaston.
After suffering a humiliating defeat against India in the second Test at Lord’s, the hosts have made a few changes to their playing XI. Saqib Mahmood has also been added to the squad along with Dawid Malan.
Speaking about Dawid Malan’s inclusion in the Playing XI Chris Silverwood said, “Dawid Malan deserves his opportunity in the Test arena. He has a lot of experience across all formats, and if called upon, I am confident that he can come and do well on his home ground. In the limited time he has played first-class cricket this season, he has shown what he is capable of, scoring a highly-accomplished 199 for Yorkshire against Sussex at Headingley in June.”
Dom Sibley & Zak Crawley omitted from England’s Playing XI
Dom Sibley & Zak Crawley have been omitted from the Engalnd’s test squad for the third test. England’s opener Dom Sibley’s form was not satisfactory in the last few tests including the recently concluded second Test against India thus selection panel has decided to remove him from the Test squad for the third test. Along with Sibley, Zak Crawley has also been left out of the squad. The two batsmen are set to return to Warwickshire and Kent respectively.
England’s head coach Chris Silverwood spoke about the omission of the two batsmen emphasizing the fact that the two are still part of England’s plans for the Ashes Test. Silverwood said, “Dom Sibley needs some time away to regain his confidence after a challenging period. He will return to Warwickshire to spend time in the middle without the scrutiny and find some rhythm and confidence. Dom offers a lot of value to the Test environment and some time away should help him. However, he remains part of our plans.”
“Zak Crawley will return to Kent to galvanize the excellent work he did last week in the nets at Lord’s with assistant coach Graham Thorpe. Zak is still a massive part of our plans moving forward but we feel he would benefit from time outside the pressure of international competition to get some time working on his skills. He has a bright future and I do not doubt that his time will come again in the Test arena”, Silverwood added.
England’s spinner Jack Leach will return to the squad. Sibley’s exclusion from the team means that Haseeb could open the batting along with Rory Burns. While Mark Wood will be monitored ahead of the first test whether he is fit to play in the third tets or not as he has suffered a shoulder injury during the second tets. Saqib Mahmood’s addition to the squad could be a boon for the out form England squad who is already suffering from the absence of Stuart Broad as he has been ruled out of the series due to an injury.
