Shami 56* off 70 & Bumrah 34* off 64 were successful in irritating England’s bowlers throughout the morning session & added 89 runs for the 9th wicket to give India an upper hand over England.
Once the Indian team declared the innings, their morale was already high & it was visible through the confidence they were wearing when they stepped on the field in the second session of day five at Lord’s. Bumrah struck in the first over of England’s second innings to send Rory Burns back to the pavilion & that was the start of what turned out to be one of the best displays of fast bowling from the Indian team to date. Indian pacers scalped 10 wickets on a wicket that was turning that displayed the dominance Indian bowlers have on Lord’s pitch.
While Mohammed Shami & Jaspirt Bumrah were successful in proving the Indian tail’s mettle by scoring an unbeaten 89 runs for the ninth wicket. Ishant Sharma 2/13 & Mohammed Siraj 4-32 cannot be ignored for displaying a stellar show with the ball. After losing four wickets in the second session, England’s score read 67/4 after 22 overs at the tea break with England still needing to bat 38 overs in the final session to save the match. Jos Buttler tried to fight a lone battle after Joe Root got dismissed for 33 but he couldn’t succeed. Ollie Robinson 9* off 35 balls did try to support Buttler but Siraj gave India the much-needed Breakthrough by removing Jos Buttler from the crease & then picked up the last wicket in the same over to seal the win. The teamwork & efforts displayed by the Men in Blue has helped them to win the hard-fought second test at iconic Lord’s Cricket Stadium.
