England is chasing 368 runs to win but England’s openers Haseeb Hameed & Rory Burns provided England a power-pack start in the final session of day four on the ongoing IND vs ENG 4th Test 2021 at the Kennington Oval on Sunday.
At Stumps on day four, England’s score read 77/0 still needing 291 runs for win with all the ten wickets in tehri hands. For England, Burns 31* & Hameed 43* are at the crease. Chasing a mammoth 368, England openers Rory Burns & Haseeb Hameed faced the first ten overs managing to score 20 runs. In the end, both the openers faced 32 overs without losing a single wicket at the stumps of day four of the ongoing IND vs ENG 4th Test 2021
Earlier, Visitors’ batsmen stepped up & did their bit to bring up a competitive total for the hosts to chase. Rohit Sharma, Cheteshwar Pujara, Rishabh pant, & Shardul Thakur all registered scores of more than 50 as India set a target of 368 for hosts on day four of the ongoing Test at the Kennington Oval on Sunday. Umesh Yadav & Jasprit Bumrah also played a useful cameo of 25 & 24 as India posted a total of 466 in the second innings, extending the lead to 367. For England, Chris Woakes returned with three wickets
Resuming the third & final session of day four at 445/8, Jasprit Bumrah scored five more runs before being removed by Chris Woakes & this brought an end to their 36 runs stand for the ninth wicket. In the end, India was bowled for 466 in the 149th over. India’s final wicket was of Umesh (25) who lost his wicket to Craig Overton. Earlier at tea, India’s score read 445/8- a lead of 346 runs with two wickets in their hand. Resuming the second session at 329/6, Pant & Thakur added more 46 runs within one hour & put England bowlers on the back foot with India extending their lead to more than 250 runs. Shardul Thakur carried with his stellar form & scored his half-century in the 134th over.
However, Joe Root ended Thakur’s stint on the crease by sending him back to the pavilion for 60, ending the 100 runs stand for the seventh wicket reducing India to 412/7. What came as good news for Indian fans is that the wicket-keeper batsman Rishabh Pant is coming back to his old form as he registered his fifty in the 138th over of the innings. However, after reaching the landmark he lost his wicket to Moeen Ali.
Ravindra Jadeja, Ajinkya Rahane, & Virat Kohli have lost their wickets but India had already extended their lead to 230 runs in the opening session. Rahane failed to score a single run as he lost his wicket to Woakes after facing eight balls & with this India was reduced to 296/5 with the lead at 197. Rishabh then joined Kohli in the middle order & the duo put on 16 runs for the sixth wicket but soon Moeen Ali reduced Virat’s knock in the 111th over by removing the Indian Captain for 44 runs.
