IND vs ENG 4th Test 2021: Indian bowlers shines bright as Visitors take a 2-1 lead in the Test series

All the Indian fans roared in joy as India registered an iconic 157 runs win in the IND vs ENG 4th Test 2021, at the Oval Cricket Stadium almost after 50 years. Team India’s disciplined bowling effort helped to defeat England by 157 runs to take an unassailable 2-1 lead in the ongoing five-match test series.

Jasprit Bumrah (2/27), Ravindra Jadeja (2/50), and Shardul Thakur (2/22) made crucial contributions to keep team India ahead in the fourth test before Umesh Yadav stepped up to ran through England’s lower order. England who resumed the second session of day five on 77/0 were bowled out for 210 in 92.2 overs.

Indian bowlers starred with the ball as India changed the momentum of the game in their favor

The first few hours of Day five were tough for Indian bowlers as they couldn’t get an early breakthrough & hosts lost just two wickets till lunch. In the second session of day five, team India turned the momentum of the game in their favor by displaying a restricted bowling attack to keep hosts batsmen at bay. Post Lunch, England lost control over the game as they lost six wickets at regular intervals, thanks to the relentless bowling efforts from Team India.

England resumed their innings at 131 for 2 after lunch, Ravindra Jadeja gave team India a major breakthrough by removing Haseeb Hameed from the crease. Haseeb went back to the pavilion after scoring 63 for 193 balls. Jasprit Bumrah then took the charge & soon removed Ollie Pope (2) & Jonny Bairstow (0) to sent hosts at the backfoot. Ollie Pope hit a full-length delivery by Bumrah & crashed onto the stumps to mark Jasprit Bumrah’s 100th test wicket. There was no stopping for Bumrah who struck again to dismiss Bairstow for a Yorker. Soon England got slipped from 141 for 2 to 147 for 6.

England’s captain Joe Root was the one & only hope left for the hosts however Shardul Thakur registered the big breakthrough by taking the prized wicket of Joe Root. Root (36) tried to guide an innocuous length delivery to the third man, but only managed to chip the ball onto his stumps. Meanwhile, Ajinkya Rahane who is currently out of form dropped Craig Overton’s catch off Bumrah’s bowling at third slip. However, Umesh Yadav ensured that India heads into tea on a high note, by removing Chris Woakes (18) at short midwicket.

England was 193 for 8 at tea with India just two wickets away from scripting a historic win at the Oval. Umesh Yadav did the honors for India in the final session by sending Craig Overton (10) & James Anderson (2) back to the pavilion.

Team India had a tough time in the first session as England remained defiant

Earlier in the opening session of day five, England’s openers continued their defiant partnership from day 4 to keep hosts’ hopes of winning the fourth test alive. Rory Burns & Hameed soon stitched a 100 run stand without any hassle. However India’s rising star all-rounder Shadul Thakur struck to break the openers stand.

Shardul Thakur hit a perfect length ball & Burns offered a complete defense but the ball deviated to touch the edge of Thakur’s bat & India got the first wicket in the opening session. Then in the 48th over of England’s chase, Mohammad Siraj dropped a sitting catch from Hameed off Jadeja’s delivery bowling at mid-length. However, team India didn’t suffer much loss as Dawid Malan (5) got run out while going for a single run. Soon England lost the momentum of the match as India’s bowlers displayed a perfect show with the ball. India will now travel o Manchester where they will try to clinch their first series win on English soil in more than a decade.
