IND vs ENG 4th Test 2021: Moeen Ali appointed as England’s Vice-Captain for the 4th Test against India

ECB has named spin bowling all-rounder Moeen Ali as the vice-captain for England’s team for the IND vs ENG 4th Test 2021. The crucial test match will take place at the Oval in London from September 2 to September 6.

The ECB announced the news on its official Twitter handle. The post read, “Moeen Ali has been named as our vice-captain for the fourth LV= Insurance Test against India. Congrats, Mo!”

ECB took the decision after England’s regular vice-captain Jos Buttler went on paternity leave. Jos Buttler has been replaced by Kent wicketkeeper Sam Billings in the squad for the IND vs ENG 4th Test 2021.

Moeen Ali was not a part of England’s Playing XI for the first test held at Trent Bridge. He was later included in England’s squad for the second Test at Lord’s as the management tried to balance England’s line-up in the absence of Ben Stokes & Chris Woakes.

In the second & third tests, Moeen Ali scored 48 runs in three innings he has played. Moeen Ali also contributed with the ball by scalping four wickets across four innings at an average of 45.25 and an economy rate of 3.02.

The pitch at Oval is expected to be dry thus Moeen Ali could play a crucial role in the latter part of the fourth test match. On the other hand, England has made few changes in their Playing XI for the upcoming 4th test at the Oval ground. Chris Woakes has recovered from his injury & has been included back into the squad. Woakes will replace Saqib Mahmood in the squad.

Meanwhile, Mark Wood has also recovered from his shoulder injury & can feature in the Playing XI for the fourth test. Jonny Bairstow will take up wicketkeeping duties in the absence of Jos Buttler. Ollie Pope or Dan Lawrence could pave their way in the Playing XI in place of Buttler.

Shedding light on England’s record at Oval, the hosts haven’t lost a single test match against India at the Oval since 1971. The Joe Root-led England squad will be aiming to keep tehri record intact as they aim to take a 2-1 lead in the five-match test series against India.
