Rohit Sharma & Cheteshwar Pujara’s 153 runs stand for the second wicket helped India to take a dominant position on day 3 of the ongoing IND vs ENG 4th Test 2021 at the Kennington Oval on Saturday.
At stumps, India’s score was 270/3, they have successfully taken a lead of 171 runs with seven wickets in hand in the second session of day four. For India Virat Kohli 22* & Ravindra Jadeja 9* are at the crease. Resuming the final session at 199/1, Rohit & Pujara scored runs at a brisk pace when Joe Root & Moeen Ali were leading the hosts’ bowling attack. However, Rohi got dismissed after registering his maiden overseas century for 127 runs off Ollie Robinson’s delivery. Rohit’s dismissal brought an end to a 153 run stand between Pujara & Rohit.
In the same over Ollie Robinson removed Pujara for 61 & India was soon reduced to 237/3. After Pujara walked off the field, Kohli & Jadeja got together at the crease & together guided India to the stumps with seven wickets in hand. Earlier Rohit & Pujara displayed a stellar show with the bat as India lost no wickets & the team reached a dominant position in the second session on day three.
Resuming the second session at 108/1, Rohit & Pujara together faced lethal bowling spells of Engalnd’s bowlers with caution & took India to a safe position. Rohit finally scored his century in the 63 rd over by hitting a six off Moeen Ali’s delivery. Rohit registered his maiden overseas century in the ongoing fourth test. Pujara provided perfect support to Rohit at the other end & the visitors ensured that India doesn’t lose a single wicket till the lunch break.
Earlier resuming day three at 43/0 Rahul & Rohit were looking set on the crease during the first hour of the opening session. However, KL Rahul (46) lost his wicket to Anderson in the 34th over & the 83 run opening stand between KL Rahul & Rohit Sharma came to an end. Cheteshwar Pujara then joined Rohit Sharma in the middle ^ both the batters faced the opening spells of England’s bowlers & entered lunch break with nine wickets in hand. On Friday India had wrapped up England for 290 conceding a lead of 99 runs. For England, Chris Woakes & Ollie Pope registered half-centuries
